trouble finding a source

Post by loki »

I'm having trouble finding a source, most places either have someone like me collecting already or are now getting paid for their oil. Anyone know of an untapped resource in the vic/sidney/sooke area? or perhaps is getting more oil than they need? I'm getting together a centrifuge filter setup and would also be into doing a co-op type thing with some people. if I can't find a place I'll probably just offer to pay a place like 10 cents a liter, still way cheaper than diesel, only do side there is that island processing will probably just start paying them more.

I just got back from a short trip to Galiano... I didn't bring my Delica, but I should have since I could have filled with biodiesel super cheap, basically paying for the trip... But the interesting thing was that I saw a whole whack of WVO jugs out behind the pub, and I asked this guy who works at the biodiesel place why they were sitting there and he said it's because it wouldn't react when they tried processing it, no matter how much they tried. I asked what kind of oil it was, he said HiLo Canola (same stuff I'm collecting, stays liquid in freezer) so I don't see why it can't be used for WVO... he suspected that they cook the crap out of it and that's why it doesn't react, so there may still be some resources around that are undesirable to biodiesel producers that can be snatched up by us.

Has anyone found that more and more restaurants seem to be switching back to "lard" in their fryers as Veg is apparently getting more expensive/harder to find due to ethanol/ biodiesel production directly from crops (not waste products).

Maybe Kamloops consumers are just less health demanding of their fried goodies?

I have been really surprised to find out that alot of restraunts are using Margerine, actually using Hydroginated oil, Ive turned down a few restraunts now with it, Its cheaper for them to get, and some places are only concerned about the bottom line. so be carefull about your oil. you dont want to get stuck with a 55gallon drum of Goo

Well I found 2 places but are small so I think I will need one or 2 more, but it's a start, pure canola.

the little dieselcraft, if I end up with enough oil I will order a larger one and use the little one for the on board filtering I want to setup either where the spare is or where the muffler is. I've heard the spinclean is cheaper but when I emailed for a price it was only like $20 cheaper and doesn't come with the mounting plate and the control valve.
