abs brakes on them things???

:shock: i have noticed since i got the van that if i have to apply the brakes rather quickly and especially if i am up to speed before i brake, that the wheels will lock up on me causing the van to slide all over the place, i have had a few close calls and of course if its raining, its even worse, i just about rear ended someone a couple days ago, just about ended up in the ditch to avoid a collision! it doesn't seem to take much for the wheels to lock up on me, any ideas as of to what is going on? no abs? Bruce Heeeelp..Frenchy is throwig a paddy again! (whatever that means you cheasy knob head!) :wink: :twisted:

Hi, check your from caliper maybe seized. & check your rear brake shoe maybe not properly adjusted thats why you have strong brake lock up in the front. check your brake & bled the whole brake system to balance your brake system from front to rear.

It's such a shame we aren't going to get to meet when I come over - I could really teach you a few tricks on how to properly insult the English! :twisted: :twisted: (Cheesy knob head not too bad though! :lol: )

L300's do have their own form of ABS - it means Absolutely Bl00dy Sh1te!! :lol: :lol: (unless you have them set correctly! :roll: :wink: )

MardyDelica is right about the brakes.....although the L300 calipers are a LOT less likely to sieze compared to the L400's! 8) The calipers are fairly robust, so pistons don't seize that often, but worth a check anyway. Sliding bolts could possibly do with cleaning up and greasing while you have them apart (NOT copper grease though!)

The front brakes are very sensitive when it comes to pads, and cheap ones can glaze VERY quickly....so pop these out and check them. Glazed pads mean a lot less braking efficiency, so you get no braking for ages, then suddenly they bite because you're standing up on the pedal!! :shock:

Run the sharp edge of a screwdriver over the surface of the pad - if it scores into the pad, they are fine, but if the pad is shiny and the blade hardly marks the surface, change them straight away! :?

Genuine Mitsubishi pads or Ferrodo pads (#FDB556 ) are the only ones I would put in an L300.... :wink:

Rear shoes often need adjusting (as Mardy has pointed out) and this can make a HUGE difference to the braking efficiency! Get them adjusted and see if this improves things?

Another possible cause of you locking up & sliding all over the place is torsion bar adjustment! (Have you still not done it yet you lazy onion? :P )

I did post an answer to your question HERE but being the lazy a$$ed grenouille that you are, I assume that the ride height is still low on the front? :roll: :lol:

Before I ever raised my torsion bars, my motor would nosedive badly under heavy braking causing the back end to lock up and snake all down the road - causing the oncoming cars to dive out of the way and making me reasses if I should wear brown trousers every time I drove the Delica! :shock: :oops:

Cranking up the torsion bars made braking much more consistent and no locked up wheels/tyres! :D :D

Just something else for you to do with all your spare time you idle toad! :lol: :P

The front rotors were getting pitted from corrosion and the pads were still good condition . The calipers were definately not siezed ( although if needed I do have pads and calipers in stock) . The rear brakes were cleaned and properly adjusted . Torsion bars fully adjusted and alignment set . Your tires were not the best and my question has to be what speed were you doing and how were the road conditions ? Bloody damp in Victoria right now isn`t it ? Worn tires too much speed and wet conditions damn I sound like a government TV commercial !!!!!

:D thanks for reassuring me on the adjustments and pads conditions Glenn, that rules out me having to get the damn thing getting checked out at a brake shope in vic which would mean more$$$ out of my empty wallet!! i do have to admit that i have a heavy foot and that most of the time , when the problem occurs, its raining out... oh and mr. cheeky out accross the pound, have another pint of porter, did you hear Glenn? "the torsion bars were fully adjusted ..." :twisted: ahh man ,what a shame we will miss each other at the meet, would have been a blast! got to go to my course i'm late! cheers! by the way, i unfortunatelly had to cancel my trip to Baja due to time constraints, next year i guess.... :( :(
