emma lake alpine hut, near powell river

Post by after oil »

hey folks. i just hiked to this place and spent thursday night there. the drive in 1.5 hrs from powell river. the last little bit is 4wd. the hike is about 4 hours and its really hard! they call it the stair master. the snow started pretty low down, so we kicked alot of our own steps in. the hut is equiped with all the kitchen stuff, even some food! there are foamies for sleeping on too. the whole area is an alpine playground. we brought an airboard which is an awesome inflatable sled thing that can really fly! we built some big jumps.

We used to build "luge-runs" up at our Thanksgiving Cave cabin. Go up there for the week after Christmas through new years to cave and play in the snow. The runs got pretty crazy at times with high banked corners and steep drops. We made long, padded crazy carpets which doubled as sledges for dragging gear the two or so clicks UP from the trucks. No serious injuries on the luge run though there was a bad black eye once and a few close calls - Lots of fun! :-D
