JMK: maybe I'm missing something, but from what I can tell, you haven't had any personal dealings with JDM wholesale.
So what on earth is your personal vendetta about?

People come on here with facts and all you do is slam them for speaking up, all the while perpetuating information KNOWN to be wrong.

"Personal Vendetta" - That's an assumption, and there's an old saying about assumptions. As you suggest, best stick to the facts.

"Known to be wrong". - Need a bit more info on what those are before I could comment on that one. However there is one point that I guess I should stand corrected on and apologize to Rufus", "It would appear that James is still SHIPPING vehicles to North America." (As opposed to selling). HTH.

One thing that we can add that is known to be correct, a vehicle with a blown engine currently sitting in Strathmore (I assume) that is also part of, and possibly, or perhaps not possibly, a sad casualty of, the JDM saga. I hope it turns out for the better, that's why I did my best to help you out on that score irrespective of where you got it and any assumed personal vendettas not withstanding.

We seem a little off topic here so maybe it's time I post an update on our JDM expereince. About 2 months ago the receiver pulled out of the situation because the amount of debt JDM had accumulated was far greater than what they could cover with the assets they had frozen prior to Mel and James leaving the country. They not only owed money to the various people on this forum but to GST, PST, the shipping company, and various businesses. Since the receiver was out of the picture the only place for us to go was the compensation fund at the VSA. At this point we're waiting for the hearing where they decide how much, if any, we'll get back. 30 days after the hearing we'll know an amount and 60 days after that we'll get a cheque ... if we're getting any money. That will bring us well over a year from the date we originally purchased our vehicle from JDM... which we had to forfit to the shipping company because they placed a $4000 lien on it that we couldn't pay.
As far as disgruntled JDM cusomters go, I guess you could say we're on the list. At this point we just want the situation over. I don't care whether or not they're still doing business even though I know they've registered at least one new company in NZ. There are enough posts about he Robinsons on posts in a couple of different countries that someone doing research should be able to find out what they're about. And if not, then maybe they'll come out better than us ... since James and Mel did do some half decent business before we purchased from them. The Robinsons are 80% at fault for poor business practices and the VSA is 20% at fault for stopping them before we got our vehicle. If they'd waited another month or so we wouldn't be in this situation but someone else probably would ... that's the only reason I'm glad it happened and they're out of business in Canada.
So wish us luck with the compensation!
And we're keeping our fingers crossed for you too, Rufus :-D

JDM did nothing wrong on that one, it is possible that the mechanic who replaced the head made a mistake (though even that is pure speculation at this point.)
However JDM sold the vehicle to me AS IS. I got a cheaper price from them than I would have from the competition with the understanding that they were not required to do ANY work on the vehicle, their only role was to source the vehicle, and handle the shipping/brokering/etc.
They went WAY above and beyond on this vehicle, I specifically turned down their offers to warranty the vehicle, and then when it broke down they covered ALL the costs anyway.
There are various levels of importer, everything from doing it all yourself, right up to the importers with all the bells and whistles who clean, detail, change every fluid and belt, warranty everything, fully comply the vehicle, etc.
I specifically chose to save money by choosing one that was only a step above doing the whole thing myself, and they went WAY above expectations on that.

If anyone is to blame for the problems I've had with the vehicle it is me, I am the one who chose the specific vehicle at auction, I am the one who tried to drive it home before changing the fluids and without changing the clogged radiator, and I am the one who dealt directly with the mechanic who replaced the head.

I never dealt with them directly as well, however a CROOK in a community reflects badly on the rest of us.
there is no reason to keep this quiet, just so they can start a new company and do it all over again, perhaps in a different part of Canada or different country altogether.

There should be a strong record of what happened and who got "effed up the A" by these people.
That way perhaps some people in the future will be spared the same fate.
Hopefully through googling their names they can find our forum.

I mean, at this stage they amount to international fraud criminals.

My truck will be sitting in my driveway on Wednesday afternoon. It's been picked up at the shipping docks in Baltimore and is on the way to me now.
