Club Logo windshield sticker (UPDATED))

Post by Mystery Machine »

UPDATE:

I have had a play with the logo in an attempt to address some of the comments made by members.

I take my hat off to these proposed ideas and admit that the revised logo works much MUCH better on all levels (including the Nationality one... :D ) The only downside of the new design is that it will cost double the original because it is more than double the material and time... :? Thank you for all your input which has helped to create the finished design. 8) 8)

I have changed the pictures below, so please take a look at the new design.....

These stickers (and all other designs) can be ordered by using THIS FORM and sending it back to me by the 10th March.

Regards for now,

Bruce.

After having a chat with Mark and showing him a possible design, we thought it best to get your opinion on a possible windshield logo design.

Please remember, this logo is primarily for other club members to identify each other easily from a distance. In the UK we have the yellow diamonds that club members put in their windshields to identify that they are from MDOCUK.

With this in mind, you should consider that the logo doesn’t have to represent a Delica, Mitsubishi or anything really, it is mainly there just to be easily identified!

I have taken the liberty of trying to incorporate some element of the car and your country into the design. By combining the Mitsy logo and the maple leaf, this gives some hint to the club and the country, but this is just a ‘secondary’ function of the sticker (the yellow diamond signifies nothing to do with Delica’s or the UK if you get my drift? :? )

The joining of the maple leaf and Mitsy diamonds is supposed to be a slight visual puzzle. Initial reaction is a ‘wonky’ maple leaf or a ‘wobbly’ Mitsy logo – but a closer inspection and the idea becomes clearer! :P

This is designed to help ‘non-Deli’ owners register the logo in their minds! By working it out and getting a ‘sense of reward’ from doing so, they tend to remember the logo and that is always a good thing! :D

Anyway – enough of the design psychology, please let me have your thoughts????

(I’ve included photos of how it would look in a Deli to give it more of a context)

This shows how little it blocks visibility from the drivers seat

You can put them anywhere you like! (this was my 'pre-deli' test sticker! )

Thanks again for all the great feedback and comments - it is much appreciated and very helpful.... :D :D

Any further feedback would be really appreciated.... 8)

Regards,

Bruce.

P.S. The photos of the front sticker make it look less bright for some reason! I reality, the sticker is VERY easily identifiable from quite a distance.....

P.P.S. The front sticker is 'mirror' cut in reverse and stuck on the inside of the front window, the rear sticker is cut normally and stuck on the outside because a LOT of Deli's have dark tinted windows. Although the rear wiper does arc over part of the sticker, I have had stickers on my rear window for 3+ years and they are still like new....

I really like it... but if I put one of those on the front windscreen... what do I do with the yellow diamond that currently resides there?

I bet lots of members will want one. Personally I think I'll stick to the other delica stickers (I plan to have one on the tailgate, and another just beneath the windscreen), but it is a neat look, I just don't want to get overly carried away... (some people already tell me that the big DELICA down the side of the van is too much...) Delicas where I live are so rare that the only other one I've seen is already an active participant, so recognition from a distance is already pretty easy... "is it a Delica?" :D

Hi Bruce,

It looks great. I personally would like a smaller one if I was to put one on my van as I am not a huge sticker fan but thats just me and I guess defeats the purpose somewhat.

But all in all great design Bruce.

Still taking comments?

Hi Bruce,
As usual, your artwork looks terrific. And it looks like you are doing these in mirror cut to place on the inside too! Outstanding! One tiny suggestion? I don't know how you might do this but the colour red is the colour of the Liberal party, (Grits to you). Canada's colours are red AND white. Specifically, red-white-red, Red from St. Georges Cross and White from King Charles VII's flag, English on both coasts and French in the middle, but also a vailed reference to the blood Canadians have shed across oceans, according to Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson who decreed in 1964 that we should have a made in Canada flag. The white part is the french part. We would never want to leave out our french heritage. Don't believe the press. ( And no actually, my da is Norwoogian and mum is jordy, Why ey man! )

I love your windshield logo design Bruce!

Seeing the live version on your van, the "DELI" portion of Delica is quite difficult to read. I'm wondering if a white background might solve this (and might also address Brett's suggestion that we reflect both our English and French heritages...)

Great work as always!

I see where you guys are coming from and ultimately, it is your logo, not mine, so the last say is not down to me....I'm just here to offer possibilities.

I will try and produce a version with some white in it and you can let me know what you think, but will point out that the cost will pretty much double I'm afraid because I then have to cut another design in white and then hand lay the two together to get the finished sticker (this is actually more than double the work of a single colour sticker - but if it is what you want?)

I might also point back to my original comment that this is not supposed to be specifically a Canadian flag, nor a Mitsubishi logo or even a Delica logo, but an identifier for other club members which simply echoes elements of the actual club logo. (in the same way that the yellow diamond from MDOCUK has no link at all with the UK, Mitsubishi, Delica's or even 4x4's - but is so instantly recognisable that it serves its purpose very well and is very popular with members :D :D )

I made the initial design as it is to keep it simple with a hint of the club logo just to make it more special than just a geometric shape. This sort of ‘device’ works better the simpler it is (and keeps the cost down too… 8) ) Most members will probably also put one of the ‘main’ club logo stickers on the car which will do most of the work in promoting the club to anyone who is not a member whilst this design is solely there as a means of immediate and instant recognition between club members from a distance. :D

Personally I reckon the design would work better without the DELICA at the bottom - after all....it is a symbol first and foremost. As I've already mentioned, this part of the design was never intended to be visually strong from a distance.....but I can try and make it more so if you wish? (It doesn't help that the photos of the front one appear a lot more faint than they are in real life)

When I get time (tomorrow possibly?) I’ll make some with white included and let you make the decision…. 8)

I’m sorry if I have upset or offended anyone by making it ‘political’ through the use of just red, I will have to plead ignorance on this on the grounds that I am not too aware of the subtleties of Canadian politics or even Canadian culture in general! :? :? (Ignorant Brit! )

Leave it with me and I’ll see what I can do….maybe then put it to a vote…..I certainly don’t want to be responsible for dictating the final choices…..

Please continue to give feedback - without it I won't know what I'm doing wrong....and I wouldn't want you all unhappy now would I??

Bruce.

What if you just produced decals in both white and red?

Post by delicanuck »

Hi Bruce,
What do you mean 'Its our sticker not your's' ? Did your immigration plans change? Wait till you see the place.
Yeah I think I see what you mean and I can't see a way of easily producing a two colour mirror cut on one backing. Instead, what if you just made the stickers up in both colours, some red, some white, and then leave it to us to do a little strip in work ourselves. I can lay the white sticker on top of the red, razor cut through both of them and then apply the pieces to the glass in whichever pattern I like. Of course, that will exactly double the cost but what price nationhood, eh? Besides, its my Deli we're talking about here.
I also really like the emblem only approach without the "delica" text below. My car already says Delica on it. Of course, the Pajero and Montero people will be all over you, you know.... if they ever get organised.
So with all this parts sourcing, art work, posting, are you still getting the lawn mowed and laundry done?

Bruce,

I agree with both you and Brett, the Delica text is redundant. I'm personally fine with the single colour approach, maybe have a selection of colours available (red for the hosers, blue for the PQ and green for anyone in BC).
Cheers!!
