Used vegetable oil plant
I have looked into and interested in setting up a used vegetable oil plant. Is there anybody else with experience or an acute interest in getting one set up and going on a cost/ share basis?

whoops, in Abbotsford, but I think this could work anywhere in the Fraser Valley, or,, even Vancouver as I commute there daily...

Re: Used vegetable oil plant
I'd be interested in getting something going... The best type of centrifuge costs a little more than what I can afford, but as a co-op I'm sure it would be much more affordable and practical since it can handle a lot more oil than any one person should be using. Some people have oil, some have money, some have time, some have space... Let's get together!

I Agree. Lets pool our resources, time, money, oil and space and get this going. I do not have time, the oil, maybe the space but its in Abbotsford, so for those who have these things, contact us at resurfacesolution@shaw.ca and we will arrange a first Bio meeting.

I'm interested. I too, am in coquitlam (like erick). I have access to oil, but nothing else at the moment. It seems like a good processing system can provide oil for many delicas, so I think it's brilliant to share this expense - after all using WVO is about reducing harm to the environment and saving $.

Glenn and Erick, do either of you have a space in your garage for a setup in Coquitlam?

Re: Used vegetable oil plant
you guys are talking about 2 different things here I think, Bio-diesel and WVO. WVO is just filtered/dewatered oil and bio-diesel is WVO or SVO processed with other things like methanol and things to make it more like diesel.

Re: Used vegetable oil plant
yes, I think we are talking about different things. I am interested in using straight clean used vegetable oil in a modified vehicle. Higher initial output of funds, then lower fuel cost. I don't think I'm interested in processing bio-diesel.

Re: Used vegetable oil plant
you don't need a processor you just need a filtering setup, either settling and filtering with Racor or other media type filters or a centrifuge type setup are the most common setups. I'm going with the centrifuge as I think it will be cheaper in the long run and it is most definitely faster as well as the potential to be made portable or even built right into the van (the last one is high on my list of prioritizes after I get the initial setups done.scorpio597 wrote:yup glenn, used vegetable oil is where its at,, does anybody have a good supply of it? what processor would you suggest?

Re: Used vegetable oil plant
I hope I didn't sound short or anything I just find people have a hard time with the difference between WVO and Bio-diesel and I sometimes lose my patients a little, I think it is likely related to the guy I talked to today at work that I had to say "no not Bio-diesel but Straight Waste Veggie oil, no I don't need methanol, no I don't care if methanol uses twice as much oil to make as gas (not sure if that is even true, sounds like something someone heard on the news or from a crackpot but what ever) because I don't need it I run the WVO straight, no I don't need to add anything to make it combustible, yes veggie oil will burn the same, diesel engines used to run on peanut oil back in the day, then they found tons of oil and it became cheaper"

Wow, that was a lot of your chest loki, lol, and I'm glad for that info, cause, even I didn't know. So, with the WV0, are you saying that you take the waste vegetable oil and run it without any processing? You must filter it, what about the animal fats in it? Do you run this in your Diesel engine NOW?
