Bike rack, roof rack trailer/ Hybrid...

Post by EnviroImports.com »

So 6 of us were going Mtn bikng up at Mt Washington and decided to Camp while we did this so with Many delica bike racks in my shop but none built to hold 6 BIG bikes about 50lbs each and having on hand the 4x8 roof rack i just finished, I decided I had one day to come up with a new system, so with a fresh tank of argon and no wind outside I fabed up a new bike rack with arms to hold the roof rack and anything else we had, we were from 14-42 all around 6ft and 180lbs + so with each of us having a LARGE amount of body armour, Tents, sleeping bags, gear, all the camping "stuff" I wanted to see if it could be done with out having to mount a roof rack on my vehicle, so this is what I came up with. each bike went front to back, and ALL the gear on the roof rack on the trailer, So what do you think of the system. we named the whole event, " Two monkeys humping a coconut downhill team"
We are also going to Whistler on the 17th of august , well we race on the 17th if anyone wants to caravan up there.
So, with a few more mods going to be put on the trailer, it should be a good time for that.

Nice set-up Noel; are you thinking about dropping the axle, bigger springs, and matching tires on the trailer that are on the cruiser? Oh, that'd rock.

well the springs that are on the trailer now are 2000lb ones and its still a bit bouncy, so I am going to make it spring UNDER instead of over, and the rack is going to be on telegraphic poles so it can be droped down to with in an inch of the bikes, I put 1.5 foot above the bikes for this trip, but its to tall as the gear catches ALOT of bugs and wind, so either a wind dam or the poles modified, and I like that idea more...for crankworks we are going to have a bike seat post bracket on the side for doing repairs. mounted to one of the poles at the back. there is acutally removable section bars on there, you just cant see them in the picts.
and rear light mounts , i still have to mount the lights, but I think it was alot done in an afternoon....lol
Im building another trailer, all aluminium other than the axel and sub frame, I allready made a drop axel for that one so it should all be about 10" off the ground, 8ft wide and 8ft long with a fold out beaver tail for an aditional 4ft of space, I pick up the bio diesel processors my self in the states so i need a light, big , low , strong trailer.
so many projects, so little time

Nice setup. Looks like it was well-thought-out.

Course, it's handy to have your own welder in the backyard/garage. Or to have a garage, but I'm just jealous. I've thought of getting some sort of Canukistani welding box, but I've got so many other projects I want to do first I don't have the time/money to get one yet.
