Do the delicas have a timing belt? When does it need be changed?

I think 100,000 Kms or five years. As the maintenance history on most imports is unclear most purchasers have all the belts changed (including the two timing belts) upon purchase.

timing belt need to be change for this 15 years old car, i did change delica & pajero which has 42-50 kms on it like new engine, but when i check it its all crack mostly tensioner belt.it doesn"t matter if the car has low mileage the belt get crack on it. change it if you can to prevent damage on your car, there is 2 belt on it, timing belt is cheap. go to mechanic who knows how to fix this delica not just a diesel mechanic. if you need help we can help you, we have diesel Mechanic who specialized in mitsubishi diesel engine & with parts to get o.k.

Also, don't forget that there is a balance shaft belt and it's not a bad idea to change the two belt's respective tensioners while you are at it.
These vans seem to suffer from a lack of maintenance in their home country so a thorough going over is recommended.(Coolant flush is but one thing that comes to mind... the coolant is often BROWN MUD by the time 15 years has rolled around).

Coolant flush is a good idea. Keep in mind these engines have Alluminum heads.Choose your coolant carefully and check the PH often

Hi guys I would agree with all the comments here it is worth changing both cambelt and balance belt together as one sits behind the other and the normal thing is the balance belt breaks first and you would not notice until it gets caught up in the cam belt and rips it off end result a lot of damage to the engine see the pics below









But don't worry too much as the very rarly bend valves.

I can vouch for that!

My balance belt went at 70+mph and made a bit of a mess of the cam belt and the head!

In fact, those pics look VERY familiar Mark - is that my engine in pieces by any chance??

Mark stripped the head down and rebuilt it with new cam-caps and rocker assembly 'in-situ' mixing & matching each of 10+ spare cam caps to the profile of the original cam! Time consuming work, but no need to remove the head at all.... :D

Frustrating thing - my cam and balance belt were less than a year old! You just can't tell with these things!

But don't worry too much as they very rarly bend valves.

Head re-built by Mark and new belts fitted - started and ran like a dream instantly.....so I can vouch for this too as well as the quality of this man's work..... 8) 8)
