power curtains

Post by loki »

I'm wondering how hard it would be to install the power curtains (not the crystal light shades in the roof but the curtains on the side windows). Any one have these and able to compare to stock curtain setups maybe? I would love this option.

My van came with the power curtains, but they didn't work properly so I have since disabled them.

The power curtains are controlled from a switch box that mounts to the side of the centre console (under the passenger grab handle), from there the wires are routed under the carpet all the way to the pillar between the mid and rear side windows, the wire runs behind the plastic trim (but not inside the metal pillar) up to an energized track which simply clips on to the existing curtain track. The curtains themselves clip to a motorized runner inside the energized track.
The factory power curtains come on the mid and rear driver's side windows, the rear hatch, and the rear passenger side window (there is no power curtain over the sliding door or on the dividing curtain between front and rear)

As with many genuine mitsubishi accessories the whole thing looks like a bit of an afterthought, the wires are simply under the carpet and behind trim panels, not inside the pillars, and even the switch box is simply bolted to the side of the centre console with a hole cut in the side of the console to accommodate the wires.

For a bit of an idea as to how things attach you can see in this picture the energized rail screwed on to the original curtain track.

sweet, seems then it would be pretty simple to add it to one that didn't come with it. If you don't use yours do you want to sell them? or are they not worth trying to fix?

a few problems... first of all, my curtains are attached to them and won't fit in the "regular" track... secondly, the motorized runners inside the tracks that I have don't "run" anymore (which is why I gave up on them in the first place)... third, after I decided they would never be used as power curtains again I chopped and removed the entire wiring harness for them, knowing that I wouldn't be using them anymore I cut very close to the powered track, so close that splicing it back together would be quite a challenge... fourth, without the power tracks, the holes that were cut in the plastic panels to allow for the wires to pass through would be visible, I prefer they not be.

It would be easy to install the power curtains in a non-power curtained vehicle, however your best source for the curtains is a completely different problem, and one I'm not really able to help with.

No worries, no harm in asking right :)
