Door Mounted Speakers

Post by patty »

I got the speakers, just not to sure on how to do the gap from the door to the deck.I dont want a crazy bad pinch point in the wire. Also I'm not sure how to mount the speaker in the door, if I just screw it into the panel it will fibrate like crazy!

Any one who has done this mod have any pictures?

Thanks

At the risk of jumping ahead of someone who has actually done this, I had the panel off this weekend to repair the lock and it appears the best spot, despite the risk associated with being at boot level, is the lower forward position. However it's all metal and would need to be cut out. But once done it would provide a stout mounting point. As for running the wires, I assume you'd want to run it through the existing loom.

Makes sense.
Now i dont know if im pulling to hard or my panels are really in there, but it looks like the little plastic pin is gonna break, is there some technique to gettin these off. I think im gonna try some leverage and spread it out some how.

Hey there. A special tool is out there for pulling off door panels but you can use 2 flathead screw drivers. (aka common) Gently push one up on either side of the plastic pin and pry outward.. The plastic pin will come out of the hole it is wedged into fairly easy. On mine one of the pins pulled out of the door panel !! :? So don't feel bad if this happens.

It's a lot easier with a little tool like this. You will be able to save more of the plastic clips, less damage to your door panel and less chipped paint. I have one and still managed to mess up a few of the plastic clips. I kept one out to see if i could find new ones so the next time I pull door panels I can replace them as they were a little brittle.

Agreed, however you can use a thin bladed putty knife/scraper and a wee flick of the wrist. You want to get the blade between the door and the clip, not between the clip and the panel. At worst you break a clip which is better than mucking up the panels. Sometimes the clips don't let go too easily hence the fear of breaking them. No worries they're readily available if you do.

You will need shallow speakers with insulation behind them.

There should be a spot for the window motor - feed it through there.

As an aside, the doors are not setup for speaker mounts. I'd be interested to see the photos when you're finished.

There is.. it is also precisely the diameter of the wire for the window motor plus the wire for the locks... there is zero extra room in there.

(speaking from experience in this matter when I tried to get a wire through for a lock solenoid for my alarm)

It is a royal pain, I'd love to say there was an easy way around, but I don't think there is... lots of patience is about it.

Oh, haven't thought of putting speakers in the doors because I figure they'd be just as muffled down there as they are at my knees where they are in the dash.

Have thought of running them in behind my head. Of course, with a Super Exceed, I've got this nice dividing hump between the forward cabin and the rear seating. Thought of mounting little 3 inch speakers up there. But that's a project for later - when I have more money...

I'll have to look at MLB to see how you squeezed those into the doors.
