Although, if you could do this with your L400... it might be worth it.

Although, if you could do this with your L400... it might be worth it.
I'm not sure I see the point... the vehicle could be 2 feet lower and not loose any functionality whatsoever, the frame is down there already, it's only the body that is held ridiculously high up in the air... a little to "shiny" for me (to quote our favourite brit)

I also can't get over the fact that they all look like every other mini-van on the road...

It was a joke... :roll: I'm not about to throw our five kids up into that van. "Climb up the ladder kids - we're going to buy some milk."

But, for the record, the van in that picture is definitely not like any other minivan on the road.

no... for the first time, a Delica that is actually LESS practical than an average mini-van... what a shame...

I am enjoying laughing at that showboat. I count 12 auxiliary lights all aimed forward. If it was really meant to be used, you would have some lights aimed slightly up, down, left, right; as well as lights mounted aimed to the sides so you could actually see something. And the fender flares are a really nice touch. Probably necessary to be legal, but totally useless. Could do with some mirrors so you could see down beside the thing. Thanks for the laugh.

Well I'm closer to purchasing a Delica, I am keeping track of the Japanese Auctions. I'm still nervous about the manufacture date though, is it listed on any of the VIN plates etc. I would hate to get a '93 model that arrives in Sept. yet gets returned cause it was manufactured in Oct. The people that have imported vehicles, what precautions have you taken?I really want a '93 but I am not willing to wait until 94 to get one.

Considering that our '94 was built in June '93 (thus we could import it), I'm assuming that any 1993 model was produced before June '93 and is safe to import.

the date of first registration will be clearly listed on the deregistration certificate from japan, that is generally what customs will look at.

Correct. :M

Just to be crystal clear so you don't get stuck at customs.

The date on the title/registration document is what customs will use : The month/year the vehicle was registered.

Don't confuse this with the month/year the vehicle was manufactured.

Example.

93 Delica manufactured in Feb 93.

But registered in Oct 93.

The likelyhood of successfully importing it is next to nil. I've seen three people fail to import because of this and they used many resources.

Head's up if importing yourself or through an exporter in Japan.

There was a place in North Van that made trucks that disappeared in the early nineties ~ it was called the Grizzly. I think they were bought out by an American company. Made the Hummer look like a toy.

This is a very good reason NOT to buy a newer vehicle! (regardless of import or "domestic" (domestic is in quotes because the vast majority of domestic vehicles are not built on Canadian soil))]

Brickland - Hah! What a story. I heard he is trying to import cars from China into the States now. What a character. I remember those Grizzlies too. Pretty freakin' skookum all right. I wonder how they were on fuel... :? And while I am a strong believer in supporting local economies, including Canada as a whole, I want a vehicle made in Japan, and a stereo made there, and a... They just seem to try harder at designing and building things well :M :-D

The Jammy Dodger (our delica) is a 94 model built in 93 (although we were originally told it was a 93 - surprise, surprise when we happily discover it is a 94). Hence it is in our driveway. :-D
I'm curious: does the serial number say it's a '94? Does the serial number look like P35W-040nnnnnn?
If this was true my Delica with the chassis # P25W-0504XXX would be '95 model. I know for sure it is '91 model built in 1990. Can someone clarify on this?

Hmmm,

Now I'm confused. My Japanese deregistration certificate says the vehicle was first registered Dec 1992. But the SN is P35W-0310nnn

I call it a 1992 Delica, I suppose that they may have started building the 93's late in 1992?
