check your van here for rust

i had the rear hatch seal off today and horror of horrors:

the flakes near the latch are some of what brushed off. the rust is only under the door seal

now, otherwise the space antelope is immaculate, i swear. no rust anywhere. there was hardly a dent or scratch even when it came to me. heck, look at the floor, you could lick it!

so i guess the water is falling along the inside of the door seal and collecting at those points. a body shop guy suggested i caulk the seal.

So is the caulking done with the seal on or off?

Btw, how come I don't see the bolt to loosen the spare tire?

i think i would caulk the inside of the seal, and then push it in place, but then maybe i would put the caulk on and then the seal
