Re: Prince George
Congratulations on your choice in post secondary educational institutions. I was one of the first grad classes out of there in 1997. Great school, pretty fun town to go to university in if you like the outdoors. Lots of good rock climbing and snow boarding a few hours away in a couple of directions. I'd recommend a some bars but I think most of the ones I frequented have closed down. I think the main university bar now is the Cadillac Ranch. When I was up there it was know for playing both kinds of music, Country & Western, and served both kinds of beer, Bud & Bud Light. The only bar I actually got kick out of...... I'm sure there are some other options my mid-thirties townie friends don't know about other than the townie dominated bars.

Re: Prince George
So Prince George gets real cold, and I dont plan on driving that much. Those are two things diesels arnt good with. I do however have a parking space with a outlet and was woundering what would be the best and good for your buck way of keepin my deli not freezin over. I can only think of a block heater and or a oil pan heater?Any other suggestions with prises?
Re: Prince George

IMO i would suggest both oilpan and block heater. I have an oil pan heater that i already installed.. heats the oil real nice.. but when it gets COLD... i would go with no less than both those options.. inline coolant heater and oilpan heater.. that way your oil pressure is good right off the start.. i have yet to install my inline coolant heater which i have but figured I would leave it and do a coolant flush after summer and do them both at the same time.
this past winter i subjected my Delica to -52 in Edmonton. only had an oil pan heater.. i knew better.. and well i had to go out and buy a propane heater to stick under my engine and a blanket over the engine and let her warm up for 30 mins before being able to start.. And of course a kick ass battery.. thankfully i have 2 in my Chamonix. more than one occasion i was very sure that with one battery she mite have failed to start.
bit of a ramble i know..
Peace..
Colin

There was (is...?) a strong active caving club there too that had some great adventures. Hope you enjoy your time up there Patty - I love your "Why I bought a delica" story btw - you have a very wise mom!Lots of good rock climbing and snow boarding a few hours away in a couple of directions.

Happy Day!

Re: Prince George
CCauto posted the part numbers for block heaters a while ago. Block heater goes behind your starter.
"It took many attempts to find the correct block heater to fit but they are Temro 310-0051 or Napa 605-3509 . I have nearly forty in stock and they sell for $49.15 each . It takes about two hours to install so $230.88 installed inc.tax"

Re: Prince George
Looked all over the forum and the net and as far as an explanation i could get was you would install it behind the starter and to access that area you have to take the left potion of the engine? ( donno if thats looking down or up at the engine). I dont trust my mechanic skills enough to by screwin with the engine. Unless some ones got a good explanation of how i guess ill have to throw some more money to "Barney's Auto."
Thanks for that price quote.
Least im putting some one's kid threw university. Ha Ha

im gonna keep tryin to find the part up here but if not is one of those magnetic oil pan heater worth buying or should i go a different way?

Re: Prince George
I tried the magnetic oil pan heater and was not impressed at all. For a quick fixt to get me through winter I installed a lower rad hose heater which was okay, but removed it and now have a block heater installed. Haven't use the block heater yet, but I am sure it will be the best solution.
A good tune up will help with starting in general and the benefits will be really noticed during colder winter days.

Re: Prince George
Last Friday at the "Deli-Meet" Stewart had a block heater mounterd in his Delica. From what I could see , all you have to do is remove the starter, take out the frost plug that the starter was hiding, replace it with the block heater ( and Im guessing that the block heater has an affixed frost plug already attached) Although , it doesnt look like you have a whole lotta room to swing a hammer to tap the plug back into the block. Could mean a lot o knuckle scrapes

Re: Prince George
Have CC auto ship it up to you rather than go through lordco or napa.
If I was living up there, I'd pick up and install an espar hydronic.
Looks like an octopus on your engine but they are amazing in cold weather.
