about parts availabylity and prices...

Post by surferboy »

hey everyone, i would like to thank anybody that has provided me with all that valuable information by replying to my questions.. i was wondering if those parts that you can get from mitsubishi in the U.K are listed anywere, how exactly do i get a hold of them, and how pricey are they compare to parts for north american vehicles.. also, how can i get a service manual in english for maintenance routines, and does just any mechanic around is able to perform those routine properly to manufacturer's specs etc... i'm just concern about the big stuff that i can't do myself, like transmission, timing belt alternators etc... are there any parts that cross over that i can just get in places like lordco for example?
(brake pads, discs rotors calipers etc..) is anybody aware of simple modifications to get more horsepower out of those 2.5l engines like air filters, exhaust pipes manifolds etc... once again folks, any infos is greatly appreciated thanks everybody! hopefully i'll have pictures of my new delica to post on the site if i decide that i feel comfortable enough to get one, still at the research stage, and i'm about to give a deposit on a nice one! :D

Two English-language books on the Delica can be ordered online at:

http://www.click2add.co.uk/index.html?t ... pt_49.html

(I'm referring to the "L300 English language owners handbook" and the "L300 Russek mechanics workshop/repair manual").

I'm not aware of any UK Mitsubishi dealership with an online parts list, but a listing of aftermarket parts for the delica can be found (with prices) at http://www.milneroffroad.com/delica.htm

Feel free to call your parts store and explain what you need, on the International Delica forum's there has been many parts purchased in Canada. I purchased brake pads, belts and filters at my local small town store; and they got here in two days. The belts are quite easy, even Canadian tire has a tester the measures the length and thickness of the belts. I had writen sizes down but have since lost that info. Doing web searches for things like a full engine head or a turbo will lead you to exporters that will gladly sell you one. Prices seem to compare very well on these bigger items but the shipping costs will drive up the moola.

The repair manuals are extremely helpful, they made changing the diesel filter an easy job and the shop that installed a remote starter for me couldn't do it without it. Concerning the alternator, I took mine in for servicing when I changed the belts and had bearings and bushings changed. That and having the front end aligned and lifted a bit are a nice improvement on these 15 year old vehicles.

To get more power, first of all it ain't no Skyline your buying - that's a 2000 lbs box with 80 hp. :P Supposedly a Fram air filter and a larger diameter exhaust make a bit of a difference. Wayne at Luxury importers in Calgary installs propane injection system into some of his JDM 4 cylinder diesels, and reports a very noticeable power increase. He is very helpful, goes by Crusher on the UK forum. I guess it's kind of a step down from NOX injection.

I contacted the MM dealer in Nanaimo looking for a timing belt, telling them exactly what I wanted to do and what vehicle it was for. I expected a "get lost" like I got from Toyota here in Victoria from my first JAP import, but the fellow in Naniamo was completely understanding and got back to me promptly with the availability, even providing more parts than I had originally asked for. I have his email if any would want me to forward.
As for the timing belt job, I had a fellow replace his straight out from a service manual and he had never done one before. He came over to my place to perform this and I gave him a hand while I did my own work in the front yardlooking over his shoulder if he required it. It's pretty straight forward to do. I would be willing to help others in this venture.
By the way, I had a another fellow phone me from Nelson (on his way to Baja) last winter from Victoria, when he blew a waterpump on his Toy Hilux p/u. I instructed him on his cellphone as he looked at his engine job and he managed to pull it out. I told him to take it to a jobber like Lordco but not to tell them what it was out of and just plunk it on their bench. It looks like a waterpump out of a 22RE gas engine and guess what, it was. Be vague and sometimes they can match it. This worked for me on the timing belt on my 2.8 diesel on the Hilux. I got it out of Vancouver in two days!
Cheers

Was that your Hilux timing belt your friend changed Hutch? A fellow in town, who has no internet, photocopied my Delica manual to use and changed the timing belt in his 90 Pajero in no time. He said for the handy types it's not to big of a job, and a good idea if your taking off on a long trip.

I own a repair shop in Coombs , Vancouver island . We have carried out many repairs on Delicas and have found many parts easily interchangable from parts stores locally . We also found some nice upgraded Monroe shock absorbers to give Delicas a slightly stiffer ride . I would be very interested in getting hold of a copy of the workshop manual if anyone is willing to sell a copy .

timing belt

On the timing belt, I have one in stock to do some year as mine was done in JP before I bought it (110,000 km) but I had a friend do his at my place while I assisted him if he needed it. He didn't use a manual but had no problems. Pretty straight forward job similar to say a 22RE job except it's a chain and sprocket set.
