Paint Colour

So we went on a hiking trip the other weekend to Twin Lakes and had to travel up a logging road. After our hike I noticed that we had a long scratch in the passenger side door. While my boyfriend is sure that someone took a key to the door, I can't imagine who would do such a thing and I'm sure we must've brushed up against a branch. Whatever the cause we now have this long scratch on the "Ca" down to the body.

Our Delica is a white one. And I've been doing a lot of looking at colour matching so that we can fill in the scratch (or at least cover it a bit better) and to date I haven't been very succesful. We've looked under the driver's seat for the colour reference (W09X94) and took that information to Lordco. Well we weren't able to match that up with anything.

Does anyone have any advice on paint match for white Delica's? And/or suggestions on how to handle scratches? Thanks a million guys.

Have you found any other whites from Mitsu? I'm sure they would have used the same white on other cars/trucks... maybe?

Between the legs of the driver you will find a small flap in the carpet. Underneath said flap you will find a number of useful bits of information, one item of which will be the Mitsubishi paint codes for the vehicle you are driving... smiles.

Lordco and JB group have digital sampling cameras that will scan you van's colour and allow the clerk to mix an exact match to your colour. I've done this for the dark grey and silver of my van, and it worked great!

this is likely a way better option as using paint the same colour as your van was 15 or more years ago will probably not match as well do to 15 years of fading.

To make it easier for them, it might be an idea to take in the fuel flap from your bus - that way they can just match it there and then.

Is the scratch to the metal? It's not something you might be able to buff out?

The thing I have noticed about the "white" Delicas is they suffer from a cultural bias.
What we consider to be "white" in North America actually includes a hefty dose of blue, whereas the "white" used in Japan is biased more toward yellow. The Delica has the yellower "white".
It is possible Mitsubishi sold vehicles of this colour over here, however I would think they'd be more likely to use a different white on vehicles destined for this market.

When I repainted my front bumper I used a generic white from Canadian Tire, because I did the whole bumper you can't really tell, however where I used that same white on the roof after patching a rust spot it is very obvious.

I have to agree that your best bet is to get a paint place to colour match existing rather than fooling around with paint codes and such, even if they match the code properly, 15 years of sun and rain may have changed your actual colour a bit.

Are you matching for a touch-up or are you planning to get you wagon painted? One point about touch-ups is that many of the Delica paint jobs are a base coat/clear coat system, and in the clear is often a pearl essence that affects the over all colour of the vehicle. The base coat is a polyurethane based paint and will not last that long without the acrylic clear coat (with hardener) to protect it. Your Delica may or may not have this system ~ best to check. Japanoid likely have access to the paints, just a thought.
