Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

So at the beginning of the summer I had a little incident involving fire that cooked all of my wiring and liquefied my battery. It sat at my friends shop all summer and he finally managed to get it somewhat reassembled. Lacking a decent wiring diagram I guess it was a pretty messy job to trace everything. Now that I have it back, there are a few issues. The main one is the overdrive. It doesn't kick in anymore. I used to go 100km @ about 2800 RPM now it revs up to 3200. Could this be electrical? Also, the tranny fluid needs to be flushed, any tips for a diy'er. Glow plugs used to "click" when ready but I don't hear it anymore. Is it just the sound I'm missing or is there an issue with the pre-warming? Ultimately, I think I'm going to have to get it to BC for good overhaul.

Any tips, advice etc would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing to know is what the extent of the fire damage was: just the battery compartment? was it an electrical fire or an engine fire? is there any damage on the engine?

As for your overdrive issue, I think the shift points are more determined by the injection pump more than anything. I'm not a mechanic, but I believe the shift-adjustment-thingy is on the top of the injection pump.

Any mechanics? Jump in here...

It's not actually the pump itself that controls the shift points, but the mechanical cable that controls it is connected to the accelerator cable at the pump, and that's where it can be adjusted if that's what it is. What was done about the ECU? and how does it start up, 1-2 seconds of cranking, or lots?

The shift points are in the tranny I'm pretty sure but the kick down linkage on the throttle cable can changes them relative to the position of the "go pedal", as for not going into overdrive it sounds like the wiring for the O/D on off switch is shorted out or not connected or wired backwards or something, I would follow the wire from the shifter and see where that leads, it's a place to start anyways.

Thanks for the tips. Just got back from a working holiday so know I've got some avenues to pursue.

Mararmeisto- Fire was in the battery compartment. My guess was loose positive that began to arc. Lucky (unlucky) spark ignited the material underneath the seat.
Schwa - Thanks for the advice. Not sure what was done about the ECU (probably cause I don't know what that is). The van cranks for a few seconds, less than 5 before firing.
Loki - Checking the wiring to the OD sounds easiest. I'll try that first.

Thanks again, I'll keep you posted and keep questions coming. Just glad to be back on the road.
