Chilliwack, anyone for off-roading this week?
I'm heading out to Chilliwack all week for work and if some of you would be interested to go explore/introduce me to the local area I'd take my bus instead of the company car... I'd only be available after work but I'm sure we could still find some interesting lanes.
Anyone?
Cheers,
David

Ok, no one to play with but that didn't stop me...
Chilliwack people, you are so lucky! You've got some amazing trails to explore! After work today I took off to check the neighbourhood...
Drove up what I believe was Army FSR and on the way to Elk View rd. I found some tight/narrow trails merging from the main FSR. The entrance was a bit steep and narrow but the truck took it with a smile. Kept driving in beautiful sceneries until it got dark then I headed back down. There were trails branching back and forth so if we'd be a few and better organized I wouldn't be surprised that those could keep us entertained for quite some time. Up/down and twisting... Those trails would also have been great on mountain bikes! (cross country style anyway). If you really care for your paint then it might not be the best place unless you have a helper to push branches out of the way (just a few...) No camera, I suck! But great fun!

The TardisDeli is ready to go explore ! Filled up with cheap Diesel (from Real Cdn Superstore on Grandview @ Rupert, just off the freeway, always cheaper there).
We can be there Thursday evening, as taking Friday off work. We'll bring our portable wood stove and a tarp to make our comfy campsite.
David, are you available to meet up Friday?
Cheers, Christine.

Bring a pic of your wood stove to the Ikea meet on Tuesday nite (tonight 7:30). Your camping gear is well thought out. I'll load my outboards on and bring them. Hate to bring my boat on top if there's any low overheads. I might forget as I leave.
Good seeing you both at Princess auto. They're still trying to find my bowsaw and phoned tis morn to apologise for taking so long.
See you tonight.

Great, glad to have company... not as fun camping alone!
I should be able to show up for the meet at IKEA tonight so we can work it out then. I've seen more trails today but didn't drive them although they were calling my name!
See you then,
David

Re: Chilliwack, anyone for off-roading this week?
Sorry I didn't see this post sooner, I've been doing battle with the evil ICBC monster for my smashed side windows. The conversation/argument I had with the adjuster about RHD vehicles was very pleasant but I digress. The FSRs off ElkView have tons of offshoots. If you followed the main one you come to Chipmunk Creek FSR and that will take you up the backside of Mt. Cheam. It's an great drive and an excellent hike at the top. I've posted pictures on here from one of my trips up there last winter.delicat wrote:Ok, no one to play with but that didn't stop me...

Interesting to note there is a fresh dusting of snow on Mt. Cheam and Lady Peak that I've noticed in the last two days. Anyhow, I'm rambling. Tonight's my last night of work so if you're still around or want to do some further exploring, let me know.
Cheers

Re: Chilliwack, anyone for off-roading this week?
Friday was a good afternoon, I met up with Delicat and FalcoColumbarius in Chilliwack and we headed up Chilliwack Lake Rd.

We headed up the Airplane Creek FSR

and after several attempts to find the main route we were successful

....until we came across the chunks of rock blocking the route.

We headed back down to Foley Lake where David and Paul set up their camp for the night near the shore, getting down the steep grade would have been a slippery walk, so we all drove down. I had my son, Reilly, with me so we cut out just after 2000hrs. Paul and David were last seen near the campfire getting ready for supper.

Then on the way down Chilliwack Lake Rd we met Jay and Christine in the TardisDeli headed up through the darkness for Foley Lake. It was nice meeting all of you, I can't wait to get out again with you guys and more ppl from delica.ca.

Re: Chilliwack, anyone for off-roading this week?
Chilliwack area reminded me of my sandbox when I was a kid... Such a cool place! It was nice to meet you Tom and I was sure glad to see you were able to make it back up the trail from the campsite, wouldn't have been fun to walk all the way back!!! (it was quite steep with rocks, roots and curves...) Wish I could have spent the whole weekend with Jay and Christine who came to camp on the last night but we'll save it for the long weekend!
Now, my truck is dirty and I'm happy!

Sounds like a great trip guys.
I've spent a lot of time exploring around there in the dead of winter. When it snows, it's a blast

Re: Chilliwack, anyone for off-roading this week?
Better late than never. So ~ as I had no camera with me at the time ~ here are some photos that I took with my telephone:
This is where we stopped. Where we turned around because the trail had turned into a meandering two foot deep by two foot wide ditch. So... we decided to have lunch and think about where next. I gotta tell ya... these are skucum machines and they turn in a very small radius. And they turn on uneven terrain. After lunch we headed into Chilliwack and picked up Tominique and provisions and this time we made for the Foley Lake FSR and explored some roads up Airplane Creek. When we got to the top of the road the thought of carrying on occurred, we just didn't have the daylight so we stuck to the roads. Coming down, gazing at the amazing vista (unlike the MS one) the thought occurred to me that if I don't pay attention to the road and drive off the edge of the road... I would be driving off the side of the mountain... there is no reset button. But still we like to tempt fate.... just a little.
Delicat & Falco were settling into a nice fireside dinner with wine on the edge of Foley Lake. Tominique & his son had left us now and it was dark out as we sat in pondering silence by the quiet fire in the middle of nowhere... Delicat spoke up: "I hear something..."
Falco stretched his ears around the wrong side of the fire ~ "Wha...."
"It's a Delica, I can hear it..."
Falco listened harder and sure enough he heard that distinctive 4D56 signature sound. They both looked up to the road to see..... the Tardisdeli at the edge of the embankment. That is when the party started..........
I can't wait to see the pictures that Jay & Christine took of the morning after.
