Wheels & Tires parts 1 and 2

Well, I picked up my wheels today. 15x7 steel wheels. I got them at Volco for $79.99 a piece. Tomorrow I will be heading to discount tire co in Surrey to get them skinned up with some 31x10.5x15 BFG Mud Terrains. Which I will update again with photos. That is part 2

Part 3 will happen sunday or monday, when Bruce arrives and I put him to work cutting and bashing, so I can fit them.

Pictures will come as work progresses, I'll try to get a good step by step of the cutting and bashing for anyone who is curious...

And here is part 2 folks:

Picked up 4 31x10.5x15 BFG Mud Terrains from discount tire co, in surrey, for 205 each.

Got them mounted on the wheels, but as you know I don't have the space on my van until Bruce gets here, so t hey're sitting around now, don't worry they're safe, here are some pictures...

Here is the end result:

and with a little persuasion I purchased the shackle lift from Bruce, ok he didn't persuade me at all, i just couldn't pass it up.

I guess this is the Canadian way of getting over jetlag??

Sweet set of wheels....a pure classic (know as the Weller 8 spoke in the UK)

yeah, apparently there are a couple companies over here that make them, tech1, and U.S. wheels are just a couple, maybe they all get them from a distributor but they have substantially different prices. How much do they set you back over there?

You'll probably want to spend sunday night resting. I won't try to put you to work right away. I doubt neighbours will enjoy grinding and bashing after dark anyways. You can have a few drinks and a comfy bed. We could go for a drive and check out some neat Vancouver scenery if you are so inclined.

Don't forget the wheelnuts: tapered....NOT ones with the built in wsahers...

Yes, I got those as well, the guy at the store said mine were fine but the tapered might be a bit safer, at $1.25 a piece I'm not risking a catastrophic event. I got the lockers too.

Good man.....safety comes first and the Mitsy ones really aren't suited to that type of wheel (they will fit, but the contact point is all wrong!)

Glad you got the right ones (and a set of lockers so that you get to keep the wheels a bit longer! :lol: )

P.S. I might have to get some locking wheel nuts for mine sometime! At $630 PER CORNER, my wheels and tyres could probably do with some security!

(but you guys can probaly get Mickey T's much cheaper where you are??

wouldn't know, but my set of locks was $32. and even if you;re covered by insurance walking outside to your van on milk crates or bricks with now wheels would end in a whoooole lot of cursing. I'm figuring out how to lock my spare to my roof rack, the one made by my roof rack company is over $100. I can make it for the cost of 2 long bolts, 2 nuts and a padlock. Oh, and the lock is not included with theirs haha

I guess becuase mine is kept locked away & secure all day, every day (unless I'm out & about in it or on holiday in it)...I've never seen the urgency to get lockers fitted but think it is a good time to look into it.

$32 is way cheaper than anything we get over here ($55+ for a good set!) so I might be getting you to run me down to the tire place so I can purchase myself a set... :D It'll be GREAT to have something Canadian on the Mystery Machine... 8) 8)

ahh, its ok, i was writing tyre for a month after reading long way round. I wish you were bringing the mystery machine. I think for the airport you should just hop in your car and stop at the side of the road just when you leave the airport, and you I'll come rescue you with an excort in my deli. Your first familiar site, unless its raining, then you'll feel right at home.

Alright then, something for all of you, aside from being a little ugly (which I don't mind) are there any drawbacks to running without hub covers? I've got auto locking hubs, but my current covers don't look like they'll work and I don't like the look of any new ones. I'd rather be ugly.

Did you have 215/75x15's before? They're going to be a dime a dozen around here, I have one never used 215/75/15 Bridgestone A/T that I won't even be able to give away.

Yeah i was a little nervous about the size, but we'll see what happens. The mudders are a bit bigger than A/Ts I think so it will be a fun one.

Yeah i've got 215s on now, pretty worn out though. Maybe I can get $50 for my wheels or something though haha.
