Radio wiring color code, need help!

Post by delicat »

Hi,

Just trying to install a radio in my wife's Delica and I'm getting frustrated. I got the Mitsu adaptor plugs ready to hook onto the Alpine stereo but:

On the Delica side there's 2 wire box, the large one is for the speaker. No big deal I can figure it out by try and error. But the smaller wire box has 4 wires coming in: a black with blue, a black with red, a gray with blue and a gray with red. Those I want to know where to couple them with the stereo. And none of them seem to have power on them, is it normal?

From what I can tell the radio side has a yellow wire for the battery, a red wire for the ignition, a black for the ground and a orange for illumination. (the other wires I can't care less)

So, any idea which wire goes where?

Thanks,
David

I go to the local stereo shop, buy the dodge colt, mitsubishi wiring adapter, costs $20 all the wires match up with 2 extras for power antenna and one other orange one i dont remember what it does, but its VERY easy with the adapter kit.
for $20 your pretty likely to get the wiring right, not getting it right and having a fire can just ruin your day

Hi
There is a topic under ICE on the MDOCUK site that gives the ISO colour codes and the Mitsubishi colour codes for all the stereo wiring,I used it to fit a Sony into mine and it all works.
One of those pairs of wires would be for a power antenna, the other pair could be something obscure relative to the particular vehicle you have.

Thanks guys!

Noel, I have the Mitsu Colt kit but the wires aren't the same color as the main harness... hence my question.

Cheers,

Hi All,
We just got a genuine Delica wiring harness (heartfelt thanks to Glen at CC Autos) with the labels attached to it. Here are the equivalents. There are two parts to the plug, an 8 pin and a 4 pin.

NOTE: Ground is done via the radio chassis to the vehicle body. Ground is negative.

Wiring Harness Mitsubishi Colour Codes for Stereo:

Mitsibushi Colour = Usual North American Stereo Colour = used for:

8 pin plug:
Blue with white stripe = red = 12 volt accesory.
Red with Black stripe = yellow = 12 volt main power.
Green with white stripe and red dots = orange with white stripe = illumination (lighting).
Yellow with green stripe and red dots = green = rear left speaker (postive).
White with red stripe and red dots = white = front left speaker (positive).
Yellow with red stripe and red dots = purple = rear right speaker (positive).
White with blue stripe and red dots = grey = front right speaker (positive).

4 pin plug:
White with blue stripe and red dots = green with black stripe = rear left speaker (negative).
Red with black stripe = white with black stripe = front left speaker (negative).
White with red stripe and red dots = purple with black stripe = rear right speker (negative).
Blue with black stripe and red dots = grey with black stripe = front right speaker (negative).

PM us with a phone number if you need more info. Thanks, Jay.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks Jay! :-D :-D :-D

No wonder I couldn't find power as I assumed the 8 pins were for speakers... Never assume!!!
Is there a way we could keep only Jay's part of the post and add it into the FAQ or tech stickies? :M

wow that was awesome!

after installing and checking out each speaker i notice that by adjusting the balance and fade, i cant completely isolate each speaker correctly. the rear right seems to always stay on... maybe just a little quirk in my deli but other than that (and needing to swap out the stock speakers for some new ones) the install is complete!!

Copy and paste the pertinent data into one of the Wikipages. That would be the best way to keep all that wonderful information.
