My van has the EGR valve blanked and I am wondering if anyone thinks that might cause issues with cold starts. Where a cold start in this case is defined as up on a ski hill and the van has been shut down for a couple of nights.
I am wondering if the recirculation of the warm exhaust gases would help build the compression up in the cylinders. I am assuming that the EGR valve is open during start-up, but I maybe wrong on this point.
Thoughts?

Would a blanked EGR Valve cause poor cold starts?

Re: Would a blanked EGR Valve cause poor cold starts?
It should not affect cold starts, but the caveat is that I haven't looked into Delica EGR operation a whole lot.
Your number one cold start issues is going to be weak or dead glow plugs, then an improperly functioning glow controller (note that bad or weak glow plugs may affect glow controller operation - it may not glow for the correct time if the circuit resistance and load values are off).
If those are in good shape, then look at your batteries, their connections, and then glowing and cranking voltage.

John

Cold start issues possible culprits :
Fouled Glow plugs
Dirty/Clogged Injectors
Malfunctioning Injection pump
Faulty ECU
Batteries

Re: Would a blanked EGR Valve cause poor cold starts?
I posted on the UK site with the same question and the one person who replied didn't think it would have anything to with it either. I also did some reading about how some EGR valves work and the one article I was reading said that they don't tend to be in use until the engine is 40C and higher, again this information was not specific to our EGR valves. So I am thinking that it shouldn't effect things too much on start up.
As for this list:
Fouled Glow plugs - replaced and are working
Dirty/Clogged Injectors - cleaned last fall and it didn't solve the problem
Malfunctioning Injection pump - possible as it has not been checked or rebuilt ever (timing has been adjusted though)
Faulty ECU - expected operation is occurring (timing seems correct and the proper voltage and current is getting to the plugs)
Batteries - new last fall and didn't solve the problem (does allow me to crank the motor for a good long time though!)
I am working with Glenn on this so I will update this post if we find the culprit to the cold start problem.
