I need to install a new turn signal flasher to accomadate installing LED's bulbs for turn signals. I recall a post from Erebus outlining that the relay is behind the glove compartment, and there is some connection between the turn signals and the 4 way flasher.

So I'm trying to figure out what I should probably be replacing with an aftermarket unit, and which of the following exist?
- Turn signal flasher
- Turn signal relay
- 4 way flasher switch
- 4 way relay
Turn Signal Flasher

Re: Turn Signal Flasher
Do your turn signals no longer work? Or do they just flash quickly?

When you use an LED, they think the bulb is burned out and flash quickly, therefore you need to match up an aftermarket flasher. TO do that you need to match it with the form factor and spec's of the existing unit.

Re: Turn Signal Flasher
Are you installing LEDs for looks or for lower current draw? If it is for looks, you can add an incandescent bulb somewhere where it won't be seen (e.g., behind glove box). That will up the current draw enough for the flasher.
If it is for lower draw, have you tried the LEDs and had a problem? Perhaps only changing the fronts or only the rears would leave enough draw for the relay to work right?
I know a higher draw isn't a problem, since I added high-mounted LED turnsignals and the relay has had no problem with that.
Oh, just remembered someone on the forum changed all his bulbs for LEDs and didn't mention any issues. Try searching for it, and check with -- never mind, just searched and found it is you (http://www.delica.ca/forum/preliminary- ... -2624.html). So I'm thinking that you have your work cut out. I don't know enough about electrics or electronics to help with replacing the relay with standard electronic turnsignal flashers that most vehicles use. Good luck.

Re: Turn Signal Flasher
You're right, when my rear were LED and front still incandescent, it was OK. It's just that I am now in the process of just finishing off the remaiing bulbs and if I place an 1156 in the front I get the rapid flash. Our supplier thinks he can match up a replacement relay if I can sent him the pinout of the Delica relay, just haven't gotten around to it. I also had thought about the incandescent bulb and it wasn't so much the extra power as the fact it would burn out and need replacement on a regular basis.Perhaps only changing the fronts or only the rears would leave enough draw for the relay to work right?
I've noticed that LEDS for the front park lights which I've also just done, are much better looking.
So, given that it probably cost me about $450.00 to do a complete change over plus add clearance lights, it's not something for everyone. Also just for the record, I'm not too impressed with the 3 Watt Luxeon bulbs which ran about $30.00 each. I placed one of those and another $8.00 8 (or so) element LED on the other side and the cheaper bulb looks better and probably brighter.
Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Turn Signal Flasher
I think there is no 4-way relay, that the one relay unit does both. From photo in my old thread, you can see the unit has two relays. I would assume one is left, one is right, 4-ways trigger both. I suspect the black box is both the flasher unit as well as the relay for both turn signals (left and right) and the 4-ways. But I could be wrong -- it's been known to happen <grin>JMK wrote:So I'm trying to figure out what I should probably be replacing with an aftermarket unit, and which of the following exist?
