Just a quick question for anyone who can answer it. Transfer Case, what type of gear oil is used? 80W 90? And where can I find the fill port? I see two large bolt heads, one on the right hand side and one on the rear. I don't know much about transfer case and don't want to loosen off something that I shouldn't be.
Thanks

Re: Transfer Case
First, you need to know if you have a LSD or not (jack both wheels at the rear, turn one by hand and if the other one turns in the opposite direction you don't have one...). If you have a LSD you'll need different oil.
Then the fill plug is the one at the back. As for oil I forget, someone else to chip in?

Re: Transfer Case
Hey. the transfer case takes basic 80w90 gear oil, like the front diff. If you have limited slip (check for the orange and black sticker inside the lower drivers door). Do the wheel spin test too... if its LSD then use synthetic 75/90w, otherwise go with the same 80w90. The lower nut is the drain the upper is the fill. and you got to pump it in till it overflows a bit.

Thanks Guys. No I don't have a LSD. So 80W90 will do it and the fill port is the one on the upper right side? And you fill it until it over flows a bit? I just want to check, I have a very minor leak.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Transfer Case
Ya Muzzy take the top plug out first then the bottom, it drains out better that way. then put the bottom back in, pump in fresh oil till it starts coming back out of the hole and re install the top plug. Yer done.

Re: Transfer Case
Wait a minute, are we talking transfer case or rear diff? It is the rear diff that may or may not be an LSD, but that has nothing to do with the transfer case.
Sorry, but I don't have an answer to the original question.

Re: Transfer Case
Transfer case. Just saying the gear oil is the same as used in a non LSD or "open" rear diff.
I think Muzzys got a handle on it now.
