the law says date of manufacture, however there is nothing on the vehicle that states when that date is. so they go off the only legal document we can obtain with a date on it, which is the deregistration paper that shows the date of initial registration.

If you can prove a specific date that a particular vehicle rolled off the assembly line then they will accept it, however it has to be official proof. something which is extremely hard to come by as it isn't stamped anywhere on the vehicle.

yeah.....sorry......i did not realize the month and year were not clearly stamped on the dataplate !!! duh !!! oh well.
On my 1978 vw it is on a sticker right from the factory. the year and month. I wonder why they did not do this !!! very frustrating !! When delicat and mardy were looking over my van they said "oh it was made in aug of 1991" i now find out that this is the date off the seatbelt !!! :o

i now find out that this is the date off the seatbelt !!!
seatbelt dates are considered to be quite accurate, within a month generally, however the government won't accept it because they have no way of knowing that the seatbelt wasn't made years before and sitting on a shelf somewhere.

FYI delica dudes and dudettes there is a 94 L400 Super Exceed on terra 2 that is up for auction tonite. There is nothing stated saying that one would have to wait until a certain date to import it (terra 2 usually seems to have a note saying "not available for import until la la la if it is the case)

it is possible they have a way of proving the manufacture date, or it is also possible that they forgot to put a warning on it...

They must be having a late night typing errors which we all do form time to time..

The Spacegear in question, I gather it is the "Green & Silver" two tone one that has done 128km's.

If it is......

Build Date: Dec 1994
Drive: 2WD....... not 4WD or AWD.
Engine: 2.5TD (same engine as Starwagons).

And finally..... sold for 72,000yen as it is too new to even consider importing, 2WD and smaller engine and no one around the world really wants it.

I hope no one in Canada brought it today as you are going to have a long wait and probably wonder why it is not very good off road.

Cheers

usually, most of this L400 were ship to asia & europe. like australia, phils, england & other country, all we can get for the delica L400 in japan is a left over spacegear all the good one is all gone to other country.
in the phils we got lots of this mitsubishi the biggest importer in asia higher than australia.
as per availability of L400 spacegear diesel the top of the line with crystal roof is april or may 1994. this is where they start production. according to my source it basically do full production on may, rather than april. as for spacegear the higher roof is better than those low roof. as high roof got all the goodess on it.
as per pump issue all of them will leak soon as our diesel fuel here has low sulfur meaning less lubricant to our pump & injector that cause the seal to leak.beside we have to remember that all of this car is old at least 15 yrs old. so expect every vehicle come form japan or elsewhere to do this leak problem soon. it will be part of the cost of each vehicle we purchase mostly from japan.
hope this help ;
Cheers;
Mardy

I see a second L400 (a dark blue one) in Terra2's listings as well.

Headlights seem to be an issue for many imports. For L300s a common answer is the headlights from a European L300 commercial van (that's what Gumdrop's are). What are the options on an L400? I've seen LHD L400 derivatives (e.g. Hyundai S-Trex), but I don't know if their headlights would fit a Mitsubishi L400.

It sucks that the only Delicas available to us are the ones the Brits and the Aussies didn't want. :-(

The L400 was available in germany I believe (as the L300 was and hence why a lot of our current headlights come from there) as a result we should be able to get L400 headlights the same way we get the L300 ones...

Of course, I could be wrong, and they may not be as available as we hope...

(all that said... I don't think I'll be switching any time soon, I'm pretty sure I prefer the L300)

Here's an L400 I just found on eBay Germany: http://cgi.ebay.de/Mitsubishi-Space-Gea ... dZViewItem

It's a low-spec model with some rust and lots of kilometers, but it has two sliding doors. It's also in nowhere nearly as good condition as our Japanese L300s. They quote the first registration date, which could be handy for importing - there are some interesting european cars turning 15 about now, and the Germans look after their cars almost as well as the Japanese do.
