The front and rear main seals, I'd assume they are a royal pain to fix? anybody had to do this, did you have a shop do it? if so what was the rate? My exporter came across a van that is in stellar condition, but has the commonly leaky seals.
Thanks,
Kelly.

Re: Oil leak
From what I understand the leaky seals are a result of the van sitting dormant for months, waiting to be auctioned off. They are kind of nervous about who's going to buy them and where they are going ~ and face it; if you were in that position you would have leaky seals, too! Also, because the engine has not been running the seals dry out so when the engine does eventually turn over, the dried out seals no longer do the job properly. Japanoid did mine, but seeing as you are in Nanaimo why not go for a drive up to Coombs and visit CC Autos, Glen does very good work and is quite reasonable.

If it's any help the front seal can be done when the belts are changed. It's not much more work to change a seal when the front pulley is off. I installed a speedy sleeve to prevent future damage to the front seal from shaft wear.
Thanks for the info on carpet cleaning.

Re: Oil leak
my rear main seal is being done right now, the estimate I was given was 6-8 hours labour and a dirt cheap part. The front and rear main seals, I'd assume they are a royal pain to fix? anybody had to do this, did you have a shop do it? if so what was the rate? My exporter came across a van that is in stellar condition, but has the commonly leaky seals.

Re: Oil leak
Falco, your insight into the state of the Canada bound Delica has me reeling with guilt...hopefully ours will be happy with us. Good call on CCAutos, I'd spoken with Glenn about this earlier in regards to our low Km deli that we've already purchased, so he is definitely the go to guy if I cannot do this myself.
Thanks for the tip Wayne, I guess things are best accessed from the underside? and no problem on the carpet cleaning stuff, let me know if you need any further specifics.
Green, that's good news, having done a number of swaps and things of the like on JDM vehicles, I think if this is the case I'll try to tackle it myself.
Thanks guys,
Kelly.
