Rear lift

Post by delicat »

Finally got the rear end of my truck lifted to match the front end...

Firstly, thanks Garyo for the beefy rear shackles!

It's a pretty simple job:

-Jack the rear end.
-Remove the original shackles.
-Disconnect the brake line from it's bracket behind the (automatic) rear fuel tank.
-Disconnect the bottom of both rear shocks from the axle.
-Install the new shackles.
-Install new shocks that are 2" longer.
-Or, as in my case; install a temporary 2" spacer under the shocks until your new shocks arrive.
-Bleed your brakes.
-ENJOY

Here's a few pictures:

This is Garyo's shackles, TOUGH!

2" spacer (temporary). I've changed the bolt attaching to the axle with a high strength one (not on picture)

This is the bracket that needs to be by-passed so that the extra travel doesn't rip the line off the bracket... I'm making an extension for the bracket, simply a 3/4" x 5" plates with holes at both ends (one end attaches to the original bracket and the other one for the brake line to connect).

Just in case you didn't know, the little rubber knob above the brake line is your bleeder valve, just remove the rubber cap and start pumping...

Ahhhh, loving it!

Just better pictures to give an idea of how Mitsushi now sits. And now that I've had a chance to try the new lift I can say it was a welcome addition to an already great vehicle! I might have to shim the tranny mounts a bit but right now I haven't notice much difference if any.

If I can offer my $.02 here, the van looks SWEET, I LOVE the L300 with a lift, BUT if you plan to do any wheeling or even go over a ditch/curb anything that will set your one wheel droped and the other one up into the fender, "Articulation" do your self a favor, drive the rear wheel , Just one up a ramp of your choice and take note of how much Rear drive shaft slip yoke extends, also you can put the frame up onto blocks and let the newly dropped rear end fully extend to see what sort of extension your rear drive shaft is at.
The L300 Delica has such a short rear driveshaft that it doesent take much to fully extend it or OVER extend it making the two pieces fall out of the splines. also you will forsure be going through more U-joints as the lift even 2" will put the angle of the drive shaft off. you might feel more vibrations in the truck, just keep an eye on the u-joints.

I took my sway bar off and at full articulation/droop the yoke is solid in the xcase.

Lowered the xcase/tranny 1/2 " to compensate for the pinion angle.

No problems. :M

Looks great David 8-)

David's (here in this thread) and mine have the same lift.

Just 2" shackles on the rear and spacers in the front.

Going over 2" changes everything geometrically in the drivetrain and a lot of mods have to be done to get it right.

I've gone 3.5 inches on my Pajero and Montero but had to have a bit more work done to them (lower bj angled spacers, extended steering shaft, extend shifters, relocate rad, beefier ujoints, drop down bracket for xcase, extended brake lines, 1" shims on rear axle, weld new bumper brackets,etc..)

Under 2" is less-than-moderate for a lift and is perfect for Delica's.

On another note, have you guys seen this craigslist ad ?

$2,500 !!!

No steering mods - doesnt the steering shaft need to be longer ?

Only if you put sub-frame blocks. Garyo extended his, very nice job...

And just for the record Noel, Jesse didn't do the lift on this one, (he delivered it though! :-D ). Garyo gave me the shackles which I installed in Jay's (Tardisdeli) shop (nice and warm!) and the front I simply re-indexed the torsion bars. I also have a spacer for the front but haven't installed it yet.

I've put this lift kit to the test and no complaints whatsoever.
