Batteries

Post by shuggyss »

Hi guys,

As much as I would love to have Optima yellow top batteries (like everyone else) in my new Deli, I live on a budget. So, with a little local business searching I found Brunette Battery in New West. Art, the owner, helped me out in 2 minutes flat with a set of reconditioned batteries with 500 cca for $112 tax in. They are guaranteed for one year for any problems. With the money saved I can apply to other gucci kit that I want in ma' bebe.

cheers

I'm just gonna stick my nose in here for a sec...

If you're running the two battery system, the batteries should be matched. You should really be installing batteries of the same type, same manufacturer, and with the same date code. They should be charged and tested to ensure they are close in out put and condition when installed.

Mis-matched batteries work, but not nearly as well as a matched set - it really shows more in the long term.

As far as AGM batteries go, they are great in certain applications and a complete disaster in others. Yellow Top Optimas are not always the best, and many people aspire to things that may not suit their needs as well as something else (that might be less costly and works better).

It's good that you have replaced your weak/old batteries, since weak batteries get expensive quickly: increased load on the starter, increased load/wear on the alternator.

It's the time of year when batteries start to show their weakness - it's a good idea to have batteries checked regularly so that you get them replaced as a preventive measure rather than as a breakdown repair.

Get two good batteries. Period.

If you drink coffee, then ponder this.

Buying reconditioned/mismatched/used batteries is like buying 1/2 a cup of your favorite coffee and 1/2 a cup of day old cola and drinking both from one cup mixed.

Don't do it.

What good is your Delica if you won't be able to start it ?
