Driver killed last night in Calgary - video showed a Deli.

Post by snelson »

Did anyone else happen to catch the Calgary morning news today? There was quick mention of a single car incident where the driver sadly died and the quick video shown of the scene showed a Deli on it's side - I think on Deerfoot but can't be sure?? Don't recall all the details, wasn't really paying close attention until I saw the vehicle.

A little bit more info - sad to hear.

CALGARY - A 39 year old Calgary man has died after his vehicle rolled over on Deerfoot Trail early Friday, emergency services officials say.

The man, whose name has not been released, was travelling southbound on Deerfoot and exiting onto westbound Glenmore Trail at about 12:14 a.m. when his vehicle failed to navigate a curve and flipped. The victim, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics tried to treat him.

Investigators say speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors, although police are looking into the possibility that the driver may have had a medical condition of some sort at the time of the rollover.

I know the area.

It's just a normal overpass / merging lane.

Sad news.

for anyone who saw the clip... any info on the Delica? (Colour? racks? decals? low roof? high roof? crystal lite?)

(I hope that we don't have to say goodbye to anyone on this forum, but then again, that doesn't change the scope of the tragedy.)

It was a crystal light roof and I'm 90% sure grey bottom, blue top with white bullbar.....the video was from a bit of a distance, but they zoomed in on the roof which is what caught my attention, and then another quick shot of the front showing the bull bars and fog lights....

Here's a sample af what I saw (colour only)- http://www.delica.ca/Photos/displayimage.php?pos=-634

Dark over grey on a crystal lite roof? that describes most Delicas unfortunately... I guess I'll keep my eyes on the news to see if anything more comes up

Hi all

Haven't connected to the site in a few weeks (19 pages of new posts) but I thought I should when I saw this tragic news. They didn't say much, but when I briefly saw the van I recognized it was a Deli, and the man who died was 39, just like me... Very sad.

I am looking at qr77.com and it says "Calgary police say a medical condition may be to blame for the latest fatal crash in Calgary"... Not sure what this is.

Green1 and I met yesterday (Friday) and were discussing it. Then we dropped by Kirkham Automotive, and Jungle Jon's Deli was up on the hoist, so it wasn't his Deli. If he still has his previous one, it is a light blue, so the description doesn't really match.

So, it's looking like it isn't anyone from the forum. If I find out any more, I'll certainly post it.

At 00:10, EMS responded to a single vehicle rollover on the
entrance ramp from Southbound Deerfoot Trail onto Westbound
Glenmore Trail. The lone occupant of the vehicle, an
approximately 50 year old male, was pronounced dead on scene.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.

I pulled this off the calgary city beat website. Obvoiusly there is some uncertianty about the drivers age.

Same website released by CPS:

On December 5, 2008 at approximately 0014 hours, a 39 year
old Calgary man was operating his vehicle southbound Deerfoot
Trail and exiting onto westbound Glenmore Trail SE. The
vehicle failed to negotiate a curve on the exit ramp and
flipped onto its right side. Calgary EMS attended the scene
and treated the victim before pronouncing him deceased.
Speed and alcohol and not believed to be factors in this
collision. Police are investigating the possibility that the
driver was suffering from a medical condition at the time of
the collision
.

An unfortunate tragedy for sure

Yes Citybeat (http://www.gov.calgary.ab.ca/citybeat/p ... index.html) is notorious for spelling and grammer mistakes. And those pesky little details like ages. Kinda scary when the person responsible for written communications can't spell.

Back to the accident though, I'll see if I can find out more.

The first article refers to a "single vehicle roll over", the second article refers to a collision... What did he hit?

Hi all,

I've been lurking for months, but I thought I'd pipe in regarding this post. I certainly didn't want my inaugural post to be of this nature.

I've been corresponding to a David M. via email on a couple of Deli's he has for sale here in Calgary. I have no idea if this is even the same person. Let's hope not. This is a pic of one of his Deli's: http://kijiji.ebayimg.com/i4/03/k/000/7d/85/a5dd_20.JPG

The last I heard from him, Nov.29, he was heading to Van to pick up a gas Deli - I was intrigued by the gasser and asked him to let me know when he returned from his travels.

I certainly hope we're not speaking of the same person here.

He also directed me to this site.

Regards,
