Cool Box
So... I couldn't find a thread on this, but I'm sure someone has mentioned it already...
But my Cool Box is not working... is there an on-off switch hidden somewhere? Or a plug, fuse or anything that I'm missing?
I was warned that this is a feature that often arrives dead... is this just a dead box?

Re: Cool Box
Is your AC working good? You need it for the cool box unless you want to use it as a warm box... Don't need to have the AC blowing cold in the cab, as long as it's on (in cab AC can be set for hot while the cool box set for ice or cold).

Re: Cool Box
Really... I need to have the A/C button on?... the thought crossed my mind, but I figured that I didn't want to freeze my ass off cooling a juice box. Seemed like an unlikely design, but if I can have the heat on then I'll give it a go, my AC seems to work great.
What about the heat option? Is that something that needs to be set too?
Thanks.

Re: Cool Box
for cool the AC button needs to be on, however you can set your temp slider anywhere you want, heat I think you can do anything you want with the interior temperature.
If it still isn't working check all your fuses in the normal fuse box, as well as the fuses that are hidden behind the glove box.

Re: Cool Box
Cool box cold or ice = AC "on" regardless if your cab temperature is set for hot or cold.
Cool box warm = AC "off", cab temp to whatever rock your van...
Give it a try, it's been a while that I used mine but that's what I recall. But hey, I've been known to be wrong!

Re: Cool Box
Are you serious?! Just to cool this little box you need to switch the AC on? WOW what a waste of energy!

Re: Cool Box
the cool box is designed to use the existing AC to keep it cool, this saves duplicating the system just for one accessory. as for "waste of energy"... minor variations in the pressure of your right foot or in the wind speed outside will have more of an effect on your fuel economy than the use of the cool box will.

Re: Cool Box
Well, even if it's just one litre extra per 100km to run the AC JUST for this little box, it's still wasting energy. Doesn't matter how much energy/fuel you use elsewhere.Green1 wrote:the cool box is designed to use the existing AC to keep it cool, this saves duplicating the system just for one accessory. as for "waste of energy"... minor variations in the pressure of your right foot or in the wind speed outside will have more of an effect on your fuel economy than the use of the cool box will.
Would be interesting how energy efficient this cool box is compare to a 12V fridge.

Re: Cool Box
I have yet to see a 12v fridge that can get cold enough to make ice...

Re: Cool Box
yes, green 1 is right you need the Ac turn on while to make the cooler work on cold.

Re: Cool Box
True enough, just turn on the AC and it does the deal.

Re: Cool Box
The cool box is simply another condenser in the A/C system, making a total of three: one for the forward compartment, one for the rear compartment, and the cool box. You need the A/C button pressed to activate the system, in particular the compressor motor (to circulate the refrigerant fluid). Since the compressor motor is belt-driven from the engine, there is always a 'drag' on your engine, and it increases only slightly when the A/C is active.
In fact, it's been demonstrated (by the fine people at Mythbusters) that driving with the windows shut and the A/C on high is more fuel economical than driving with the windows open. Their highly scientific testing is supported by most vehicle manufacturers which recommend the same procedure in the owner's manual.

Re: Cool Box
For the other two AC systems to work, the front fan has to be on any position other than off, as well as the button being in. Would suspect that the cool box also needs not only AC button in but fan on.mararmeisto wrote:You need the A/C button pressed to activate the system, in particular the compressor motor (to circulate the refrigerant fluid).
