Here's a good story,
I just recently did my block heater. Just after the job the van didn't start well- solenoid click. I thought it was something I did, since I just had the starter out. But I determined that it was the starter. So off I go down to get a starter at coombs country. I purchased a reconditioned one, finally met Glen and we were off on our merry way.
We stopped at Englishman River Falls for a little hike and when we went to go of course the van didn't start - click click.... We popped the hatch to tap the solenoid when it started I heard a weird sound coming from the timing belt area. Not good. So we just ran back to Glens to show him. Turns out a bolt broke off of one of the pullys and the timing belt was self destructing! When Glen showed me the belt it already had a large chunk missing from it!
He fixed it up then and there and had us on our way. Unfortunitly for him he just replaced it 4 months ago and had to cover the costs. Fortunatly for me it did not happen to me on the road to Manitoba next week!
The moral of this story, if you hear weird noises coming from you timing belt area - or any area for that matter - STOP THE ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!! find the problem, call Glen.

Re: Deli-luck
Nice to be just a stone's throw for ccautos when that happened eh? Sure beats discovering the problem in Lethbridge at minus 40
Good one!

Re: Deli-luck
I'm never that lucky...
If my timing belt went you could bank on me being in the middle of nowhere, in the coldest or hottest temp. the area had seen in 100 years, with four hungry kids (I only have two kids, but this would be the day I said 'sure your friends can come camping with us'), my dog needing food and water and/or running away, every place in the northern hemisphere would be closed due to some sort of freaky new holiday (I suspect the papers are in the works right now for 'save your engine day' or some other tragically ironic holiday that would burn me). I would be just... just out of range on my cell phone which would be out of batteries anyway, it would also be the day that all my pre-arranged payments, bills and fees would come out of my account, while my work pay would be delayed for the current holiday...
...oh and I don't know why but I'm sure I would be naked too...

Re: Deli-luck
I had the same thing happen to me. Driving down Main St a month after I got the Van. I was thinking to myself how much I loved this thing. When all of a sudden a loud crunch and some grinding metal then... nothing. Rolled over to the first side street I could find, popped the seat and to my amazement there was my timing belt pulley poking itself through the plastic guard. Towed it to Japaniod where they had done the timing belt and got it there just before they where closing up. The next day I got a phone call saying that they fixed it. A couple broken rocker arms and so on. Went to pick it up and they handed me a bill for $900 bucks. I asked what happened they said "the pulley itself JUST popped off it was the cheapest one they had...!" And that because I was 1 DAY (being the day they fixed it, not the day I dropped it off) over the warranty and a third party that they where not going to cover it. The only thing they would do was not charge me for the new pulley. I was pretty upset with this whole thing, but I still love the Deli...

Wow...doesn't sound like the guys at Japanoid from my experience - then again, haven't had to get any warranty work done either.....so far!
