To Dealers: Subaru Sambar?

Post by quadzilla »

Just wondering if any of the dealers (or anyone on this site) in the Vancouver / Victoria area has imported / had any experience with the Suzuki Sambar.

Thanks and Merry Ho Ho!

I know there are some Subaru Sambars around town, but not sure if Suzuki has the same model.

I bought my Delica from Mardy (MardyDelica - Amazing Auto Imports), and i'm pretty sure he will import anything. You may want to try and contact him.

I was also looking to get a Sambar before we bought our Delica, but then found out you can't really drive them on the highway for too long or you'll burn out the engine and no 4WD. It only has a 700cc engine.

They are sweet looking (as a second vehicle)...esoecially the ones that have been converted to look like an old VW bus.

Good Luck!

I currently own a non 4wd subaru sambar, and can tell you it's an excellent vehicle, I would have bought the 4x4 but this one was a good deal for one with 19k untampered kms... and I needed to fill a container with 2 delicas, so it was the perfect size.

It's not insured yet, but the drive back to victoria from richmond was fun, the gears are quite short though, I don't know if the supercharged model has longer gears or not. They have been touted by most importers as the best all around truck, especially the 4x4 sc edition.

Definitely ask around though, the more research you do, the less chance there is of being disappointed/burned.

BTW, mine is for sale! :-D

OK -bit of a mix up - I was looking at the Suzuki Every and the Subaru Sambar and morphed them into one! See new topic!

I know this is not a delica, but I am looking at one as a second vehicle that will be used around town. Chewy: Any photos and how much? And you are selling the 2WD?

Thanks Mardy - not quite ready to make a purchase, but would be grateful for any "user" info on these vehicles - the web is great, and I did find a mini truck forum, but it is not as well used as delica.ca, so there isn't as large a body of info as there is for the Delica.

I got a couple of comments/thoughts from a Sambar owner I met in Calgary this summer (look in photo album for picture of vehicle). She indicated that it is definitely an around-town vehicle and probably wouldn't do well on the highway. This is completely in line with the sentiment of the Kei regulations which are to support vehicle accessibility in rural areas (i.e. where there aren't too many highways).

She also liked the folding-flat rear seats, a "stow-and-go" option in a vehicle which the Japanese came out with at least a decade before Chrysler did. And it probably didn't cost them 400$ million to develop the idea either.

The rear engine is a good idea, too, according to her, although I can't remember her reason for why.
