We are wondering if there is an easy and safe way to attach a baby car seat to a captians chair?

Re: car seats
Yes!
If you have a post Aug. '91 with the 3 points seat belts all you need is to install an anchor to the base of your captain chair. One simple way is to use the existing hardware at the bottom of the chair, remove the nut, install the anchor and re-install the nut. (I've used the one that are facing down under the seat towards the back.)
I'll see if I can find pictures for you. But yes, easy and safe...

Re: car seats
the seatbelt locking h-clip also works on the shoulder belts, but not on the lap belt-only that is mounted on the seat.

Re: car seats
if you do have an older van w/just the lap belts, carseats will still work fine on both outer seats on the bench in the back, but not the cpt. chairs

Re: car seats
If you are in the Lower Mainland area then I would advise you to go to a mini meet that is occurring in North Van on Sunday morning (tomorrow) at 10:00hrs at a coffee shop called "Beans On Lonsdale" (18th & Lonsdale). There you will get a lot of good advice with live demonstrations by none other than DeliCat, who has experience in this subject. And that's not all... There will be others there who also have experience regarding things that you have not as yet thought about... smiles.

Re: car seats
There are several threads about car seats (some with pics) - try the forum search feature (top right hand corner). We've installed car seats. The quick way to install the anchor takes about three minutes, but then you can't use the swivel feature of the chair (not that you would want to swivel a baby around, but...) The less quick way that enables the swivel feature to still work take about 10 minutes.

Have a look here http://www.delica.ca/forum/child-seat-t ... 45-15.html this may help with your anchor installs.
