Hi their i have talked about my transmission not shifting into overdrive. At first it wasn't shifting into overdrive when it was cold and i was told it was normal behavior. But i know that this is incorrect know, i just had my transmission rebuilt by wilf auto in vancouver. My deli smoothy shifts in to overdrive at 60 even when its cold. The rebuild cost me 3000 dollars. I bought my van from Marty and he tried to help me fix my problem with my transmission and i thank him for that. His fix for the problem was to change the transmission fluid and i change it 3 times in the last year and at first it seem to work but within days the deli had trouble shifting in to overdrive. So i found Wilf auto transmission and they confirmed what i thought that their was something more serious with my transmission. I found it serious because the fluid has always turned a burnt brown colour after a few weeks of use. I would like to say that Marty is very good and honest guy and i will continue deal with him. He has tried to help me with my deli not shifting in overdrive and has dnot left me in the dark, but my deli needed a transmission rebuild.

I'll break down the cost. The labour to do the job cost 1225.25 and the master overhaul kit cost 489.44, torque convertor 434.50, valve kit cost 182.48 and centre support cost 262.31. I also paid Mr. Harper almost 400 dollars in taxes without any help from him what so ever.

Old harper can be a bit of lazy douche in those situations for sure. Almost always get his dough in the end.

hi, you know $3,000 is very step, for sure they only give you 6 month warrantty. did you already did it. or not i would rather get used transmission from japan as the warrantty is the same. used jap. trans is much better i think & cheaper as they dont usually used it.

Hey Marty Wilf's auto gave me a 2 year 40000 km warranty thats good any where in north america. 3000 is steep but the transmission is like new and the delica works like new. Wilfs auto has done a few delica transmission rebuilds now and i would recommend them if you need to over haul your transmission.

How long did you have the van? I thought Mardy had a 12 month warranty?

Hey Pink Finger I have owned my van for two years now. I bought it from Marty but i never had a warranty from him, so if you do have warranty from him you have nothing to worry about.

hi, matt, you have warrantty before, but its already laps & it did not happen before. just sad as this is low mileage clean car.
as for pinkfinger saying, its already more than a year when this thing happen. as even up to now i do give 1 year warrantty on each car who buy from me.

Good story. Your itemized parts list confirmed my (and a couple of other driver's) suspicions that these weren't just 3-speeds with overdrive: the 'fifth' shift is actually the torque converter locking-in when cruising on the highway (that one's for you Falco).

Also, 3000$ doesn't sound unreasonable. Fact is, the transmission is a big-ticket item, regardless, and it's one of those parts that is never usually a 'small' fix. It's kind of a all-or-nothing thing. Good thing you caught it before it locked up and damaged the engine. ATF colour is one of the simplest but most often overlooked indicators in a vehicle.

3k is right on the spot with a torque converter replacement as well.

There's a few trans places in Langley that have been doing Montero trans rebuilds since the 80's. (same transmission as Delica's)

I had the pleasure of sitting in on one rebuild as it was my sister's Montero at the time. A lengthy process !

Agree with everything said thus far, but another suggestion is to always get a 2nd opinion - and also seriously consider getting a used tranny from CCAutos or other parting out deli. I won't go into the details of how I know - but there is a very large and well known national chain that is "franchised" - and I'm aware of at least two locations who would regularly rebuild transmissions for minor problems that were COMPLETELY unwarranted. It is the biggest scam in the book.

The gig is to charge a "service inspection" - nobody wants to lose the $90 or so (not sure what it would be today) by taking the car elsewhere for the 2nd opinion - so the first thing to do is ask for, or demand a free inspection to determine the problem, followed by a price quotation. If they won't do a free inspection and quotation - then you've lost nothing other than time.
