Headlight mayhem!

Post by Tombombadill »

Hello, Delica Enthusiasts!

Driving home to Deep Cove from Victoria the other day I realized my low-beam headlights were'nt operating! Both of them. My high-beams still work so I was able to drive home safely, hopefully without blinding too many people! I've done some troubleshooting and determined some interesting things. All other lights, high-beams, running, and turning work. I can hear the relay 'click' when I twist the low-beams to on; Relay still works? My fuses are all intact and have power (I did a light test) Does that mean; not a failure at the arm switch? Hopefully, 'cause that would be expensive I think =) Furthermore, I've removed both headlights and examined bulbs, not broken. However, the light test revealed no power at the headlight unit plug in. Wiring failure, between relay and lights? Next step, I think, is to find a wiring diagram. Does anyone know if the 'L300_wiring.pdf' diagram you can download from wiki is aplicable to a 92' Delica Exceed? I'm sceptical 'cause it's titled '1987 L300 model for Europe'. Then again doesn't the 'owners repair manual' cover Delicas from '87-'94? Is that where the wiki file came from?

Any help would be super!!!

I had the same problem, twice.

Turned out to be the steering column control unit.

Glen at CCAuto should have a few left. Mardy was parting out a unit as well. Glen charged me 75 bucks for a used one , and another 12 bucks collect on Greydog.

Remove horn, 1 screw on the underside of the horn centre. steering wheel ( mark the spline location on the steering wheel and steering shaft) You may need a steering wheel puller. I picked one up from Princess for $9.00. I found the threads werent quite the same between the metric bolts and the steering wheel, but figured, if I rethread with the new bolts, no harm. Pop off the steering wheel. 2 screws hold the unit to the column. Unplug the harness, and remove. 10-15 minutes sitting in the seat.

Cheers

I just had the same problem. I dismantled the unit at the steering column and noticed that there is a little plastic piece that was worn down and no longer turned the headlights from off to on. Again, my high beams work.
Did you have any luck finding that part?
Thanks,
Scott :M
