This is Edwin. For those of you who don't know Edwin, he is a very capable machanic who knows what he is doing.
This is my injector pump. It has a leak because the seals are on their way out. So today we are going to remedy this issue and save much money in the long run, a reasonable trade off of dollars.
This is Edwin with my injector pump. Didn't take long for Edwin to get it off of the engine, Next will be the clean up so the job can be done properly.
This is about half a litre of diesel going down the drain. Once the diesel is drained out of the pump the next step is to clean all the residue off ~ cleanliness is next to Godliness.
This is the rest of the engine. Hmm, looks a little dirty ~ time to do a little cleaning. This is something I like to do. Apart from the engine performing better when it is clean, I also get a kick out of watching the faces of people looking at my engine, I am told that this is strange behaviour .
This is what the I.P. looks like in pieces. I am led to believe that Edwin does this sort of thing instead of jigsaw puzzles or crosswords. The new seals are in this picture.
While Edwin is working on the the IP, I am taking things apart on the other side of the van so we can get to the master cylinder. I have a leak and there is brake fluid all over my mat.
Edwin took the master cylinder out and replaced it with a new one. This procedure went quickly.

WOW! That IP is scary lookin' all dismantled like that - clearly best left to the experts (or at least the careful and fastidious!). Hazel's IP doesn't leak - yet... but I'm saving up for a rebuilt replacement when the time inevitably comes. Thanks for the great picture post Falco - top shelf
what do you use to clean the engine? on my trip north from mexico, i left the oil cap off once.. for 500 miles!!!! eep. the cap was sitting right where i left in on the engine, but now there is oil all over the place...
Eww... sounds like a bit of a mess, Oil. I usually use a scotchbite pad and metal cleaner, followed by a soft cloth that I buff with. In your case I would consider using a solvent to start with, like gasoline, with an absorbent towel. Typically I use an abrasive to only as abrasive as is needed ~ Brasso is not so abrasive and good for polishing but elbow grease is ultimately the best.

Met you at the recent North Vancouver breakfast-eat at Tomahawk.... are you kidding? You are calling this a dirty engine? This looks about as spotless as I have ever seen one.... you keep your stuff pretty clean....
I should clean up mine some time soon... and as I believe there are some oil stains on the pavement below my van, I should probably get the IP fixed up too. The question is (as I par my Van on the street) if the oil is from my van or if it is other vehicles leaking...
How do you find out if your van is actually leaking diesel?
Put a piece of clean cardboard or the like under the bus when you park and check it for stains. If you find them have a sniff to determine if it's diesel or motor oil. If it's oil the first place to look is the turbo. If that is leaking a little, forget about it. Mine leaks a little bit, but if I get under there a couple of times a week and give it a little wipe it never drips on the ground. If it's diesel then I suppose you'll want to have a close look-see at the IP

Actually, I live on my own, with no one else to look after.... except my baby. If I am really bored (to tears) ~ I will go out and clean something. My landlady has watched me doing this and just shakes her head in disgust. One time she saw me and told me point blank that I should get a girlfriend ~ so I asked her what she was doing on Friday night. But alas... she is already married.
Regarding oil, Konadog says it well, use a piece of cardboard. One other thing you can do is reach under and feel the plate beneath where the injector pump is located (this is how I noticed it). If your hand comes out oily then it could well be your IP. I just noticed that I was getting poorer and poorer mileage when I filled up. During the snow time I just thought I was using more fuel, but I never saw anything wet under the van, as I have a parking spot in a garage. Depending on how bad it is, diesel being a thin oil tends to evaporate faster, unlike engine oil.
My last vehicle was a Plymouth Voyager and had many issues with it. Now I run into London Drugs to get something and when I come back out I see oil or green stuff under the van and my first assumption is I have a leak. One time I came out of a shop and saw green fluid under the front of the Miss Lil' Bitchi and I felt that strange queezy feeling in my gut when it dawned on me that my radiator is no longer under the grille but further back. Old habits, I guess... smiles.

Hey Falco how much did CVI charge for the master cylinder parts and labour? I just noticed mine has a little bit of fluid around the body of the master cylinder and a little bit on the brake peddle.
Best to call CVI and get it from the horse's mouth, as it were. My invoice is still filed in the van and that day I had a few things done so I'm not actually sure what the exact price for a master cylinder is. Also, they have deals from time to time so any rough price I throw out to you could be way off base.

Nice, Butch and Edwin Monochrome up with a timing belt and refreshed the whole front end of the motor before I sold her to Jacques....I don't know what's better, how awesome CVI is to deal with, or the work they do!!!
