delicas in the kootenays

Post by Mak »

Hi, does anyone know where I can get my delica serviced in the Kootenays. I am in Trail but Nelson is 45 minutes from here and there are quite a few delicas there. I brought it to one guy in Trail and he said he has worked on them but he doesnt have a parts supplier. I was also wondering if you can upgrade the headlights to halogen or xenon. Or are they only compatible with special delica headlights.

Thanks
Mike

Hi there,

Unfortunately I can't help you with mechanic information in the kootenays.

As far as the headlights are concerned: You can upgrade fairly easily by purchasing the blueish-H3 bulbs at Lordco (not so cheap though, around 40 bucks a piece or so) and they claim to have light output of around 80 watts per bulb while being rated at 55watts (not sure if this is true) but because of the "true white" slightly blueish-glare they are quite a bit brighter than the more yellowish-original bulbs.

Definitively made a difference for me. The "high-end" alternative is HID lights (there are also H3 -type bulbs available) and they are quite a bit brighter. There is a guy in Burnaby who has all kinds of models (from the rather expensive Bosch or Hella brands to cheaper Korean brands) - these HID's have less power consumption (only 30 or so watts) but are quite a bit brighter (the kind of lights that modern BMW's or Mercedes use). In order to get these going, you'll also need to install a transformer box.

I personally replaced the position marker lights with LED bulbs which, while using much less power, are considerably brighter than the original 5w bulbs (this is for the little lenses in the bumper, next to the orange turn-signal light).

Here is the website of the fellow who deals with all these lights (he's also got a stand at the Vancouver fleamarket on terminal every Saturday and Sunday... benefit of the fleamarket: bartering is possible"...

Hope this helps, cheers,
Chris

Mak,

Search for Delicats conversion to HID. Nice set up. He got his through one of the members here.

Another thing to think about is your lenses. Maybe a new set of Depos will help too. The beam is only as good as plastic/glass thats refracting it.

Good Luck

I know that Steve Postnikoff at OK Tire in Castlegar has worked on one or more, seems to have a handle on sourcing parts and seems pretty reasonable. I'm planning on getting some work done as the old girl nears 90.
Good luck!
