....was a comment/question made to me at the A&W Drive Thru in Victoria after she realized I had to reach over the passenger seat to pay for my food....

thought I would post it here for a chuckle

some people aren't as swift as the rest of us.... *sigh*

I don't like drive-through's much anyway, I tend to just go inside (even in my LHD)

I DID follow through with responding that drive thru's would be on the other side - you could see her eyes register the obvious...she laughed at herself and said 'oh yeah, I guess I didn't think that one through...'

We simply don't see them that much at all. And as green 1 states I avoid them too as I feel its a wast of fuel etc..

Or the fact that in Europe they drive left hand drives on the right hand side of the road, just like here :? Checkout this site for a breakdown of who drives on which side and some interesting speculation as to why... http://www.brianlucas.ca/roadside/ :M :-D

Just to echo Konadog....

I am from Europe - and the only country (it's actually more like an island) that has rhd is the UK....

Had to laugh out....

Although... in all fairness: if it were just the drive throughs - these are easy enough to avoid... the worst part are the parkades where you have to pull / insert a ticket....

These get me sweating every time.... :-)

That's because the UK is an island!

I stop at the machine and get out and run around to push button/receive ticket. I'm pretty sure trying to climb over to the passenger window would take longer. If there is someone behind me I always expect them to honk impatiently at me spending 5 extra seconds, but none have yet.

some are ok, others are awful, the regular ones at the calgary airport entrance are impossible, but the exit isn't so bad. and the ones for over-height parking I can reach without getting out as well. (I don't have a lot more experience with parkades, because they aren't generally tall enough anyway...

There is also the Wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_hand_drive) that gives all kinds of info too.

From the wiki entry:
RHD vehicles are allowed for import in Canada, providing that they were manufactured over 15 years ago. For instance, before Rolls-Royces were marketed in Canada, the only imports available were RHD. Recently, however, Rolls-Royce and other expensive British automakers now manufacture LHD versions and have a Canadian office. Some Japanese RHD cars can be found as well, like the Nissan Skyline, Mitsubishi Delica and Mitsubishi Pajero. These cars are mainly found in British Columbia due to the proximity to Asian ports, but may also be found in cities such as Calgary, Toronto,Saskatoon and Winnipeg.

One of the very few places in Canada where traffic drives on the left is in Montreal on Autoroute 20 for the 3 kilometers (2 mi) between its junctions with Route 138 and Autoroute 15. The two roadways remain separated by a concrete median barrier for this entire distance and the changing of sides does not interfere in any way with the flow of traffic.
Interesting, someone seems to know the RHD market in Canada. And the author(s) know Montreal too. The separation on Hwy 20 includes several sets of train tracks, so you don't really notice that you are on the "wrong" side.

Actually negative and negative...

There is an island called Cyprus - just off the coast of Lebanon - that is part of Europe and that has RHD...

So - I was wrong and wrong... but anyway - continental Europe is all LHD....

Cheers

There's a real simple solution to RHDs and the troublesome Drive Thru. Just do the whole process backwards; as in drive thru, while the Van is in reverse.
