Stop bashing newbies

Post by flyfishn »

Yes I am a relative newbie. I devour this site.
The information I have gathered is awesome.
The responses I get, I am most grateful for.
As I have mentioned, I plan to buy a Deli at the end of the summer, for now I ride my scooter year round and am looking forward to having heat and a shell around me for next winter.

My rant is hearing that "someone" tries to lowball people on here that are selling their vehicle. Fine that is their perogative, but please stop saying, " must be a newbie". Your painting us all with the same brush.

Whose to say it wasn't a long time member hoping to score a deal in these tough economic times? Unless they contacted the seller via PM and not the phone, how would you know it was a newbie.

All done, have a great day.

Hello Flyfishn, and all "Delica Community" members,

I also have noticed a few replies recently not written as supportive members of our Community.

Those who have made less than polite posts, please take the time to log in and edit them (only the writer can edit their own posts, this does not change its location in the time-place continuum).

We all have cabin fever at the moment. We should not need the Administrator to restrict who can post unmonitored. Restrictions will reduce the quick responses when people post a call for help.

As a local organizer, I strive to make Everyone a happy Delica Community Family member. Hence we organize mini get-togethers so those with and without a Deli can get questions answered in a supportive and friendly environment.

Many members spend hours on-line and on-phone and in-person helping others. That is the True Delica Community Spirit.

Cheers, Christine.

Hey
Sorry I won't reply to which thread. I would not want to offend anyone.
I don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill, I just want newbies to be given a fair shake.
Unless you know for a fact that a newbie made a lowball offer or did anything else to unjustly offend someone, just try and deal with that individual.

Have a great day and thanks for responding.

If it's just a one-off person doing it, I'd shrug it off. Maybe the person had a bad day or something.

I can't see anywhere that bashes newbie's in here unlike many other forums.

Only thing I can think of that may be offensive to certain newcomer's would be the 'you should be using the search button'. Other than that, this is a very tame site and welcomes new people :M :-)

Agreed this site is super tame. As far as offers and the like, maybe they should be done with the PM function. Many other sites have that as a rule already. Other site courtesies that I see elsewhere are not to thread jack, for example: If I was selling something and somebody doesn't like the price I asked, they should look at it or not and move on rather than post an opinion like "what I planet are you on with this asking price " then offer alternatives that are priced lower. This has happened here on the parts section from time to time but it is not out of control. An individual has the right to ask whatever he or she thinks something is worth, the market will determine in the end what it is worth when it sells or not.

So I guess as the community grows we may need more guidance about posting, but really this is a great community that 99% of the time is supportive of members new or old.

Hey Flyfishin... smiles.
One thing that is going on in this community is a revamp to make it even better and easier to understand for someone new ~ coming into Delica Canada :M :-D .

There was one point when we had a thread going on about a topic and a "newbe" posted a question which had to do with that topic. People answered the question and politely directed the interested party to the afore mentioned thread. Then about two days later another new member asked a similar question about the same topic, I think it was about fuel, and their query was also answered in the same manner. This went on for about three or four new members while the original topic was still on the first page of "active topics", it was as if they were hiding in the bushes waiting for us ~ of course they were all innocent questions ~ and it made me think about when I first joined and whether I asked all the right questions or how many people I innocently p*ssed off... smiles. I suspect someone got sarky and levelled a proverbial jab. It is good that you brought the topic up so that people will think about it ~ Patience is a Virtue.

Pay no attention to Fishslapper, we actually did that to him but he is the only guy in the history of Delica Canada that we have done that to and I think he feels a little singled out .

This revamping that I am talking about is likely to happen over a gradual period of time as no one is getting paid to do anything to the website and it all happens in spare time ~ this truly is an amateur* operation.

One think I have noticed about this style of communication is: By and large, one can "read between the lines" but sometimes when someone cracks a joke but the reader has no physical gestures to go by ~ then it can be read the wrong way. As I said ~ Patience is a virtue... smiles

Falco.
