Anyone Want to Help a UNBC Student with a Final GIS Project?
Hello all,
As of the next two week I will be working on my final GIS (geographical information system) project. I have a couple of ideas of what i want to do, but some interest me (or would be fun to do ) more than others. Basically what i was hoping to do was have voluntary JDM drivers PM me there postal codes (just the postal code). then i go through stats can data and match that code to dissemination areas and census tracts. that will turn into a point on a map ( not exactly where you live but pretty close). then i would get the addresses of JDM importers, and repair shops and put them on the map.once that is done ill make a buffer around these locations (haven't decided what distance yet) to see how many JDM drivers are in serviceable areas. at the end of the two weeks there will be a website up showing my projects, so any one who is interested could take a look.
now this whole thing relies on whether i can get enough postal codes from JDM drivers, which i know people will be hesitant to give. right now its either this or tracking the beetle kill across BC, but there are already tons of studies on that and i wouldn't want to be mixed up in plagiarism.
ill PM mark and see if he has the old delica.ca owners map.
alright thanks!

By the time you realize that my signature has no real message or life altering words of wisdom, you're too far into it to stop reading until you are finished

Great idea. Maybe add repair shops, importers/dealers, veggie oil & biodiesel locations, and specialty services like Strut-Wise in Surrey, E&H Hitch, etc. Such an on-line map would be very useful, eventually available to members to update on-line (their own info and services, not other members info).
Thanks,
Dan

T3L 2S3 for place in Calgary
T1L 1A1 for place in Banff (there's at least 2 additional Deli's I see around here consistently...)
Great project, I'm in GIS myself! And lived in PG! Small world.
Looking forward to seeing your project, hope you get enough 'volunteers'...
