This general time of the year is the traditional New Year throughout the world. Easter was once the western New Year, named so after Eostre, Goddess of fertility (hence oestrogen).

Happy Norooz! Persian (Pars), means literally: New Day.

:o Yuck! I hope it melts for ya soon too! Where are you anyway? It's pretty nice here on the West Coast, though still cooler than "normal" Still, I heard frogs yesterday and the buds are swelling and some even breaking. Great to be able to finally work unfrozen soil again! God, what a gnarly winter it's been! :?

I'm on the east coast of Newfoundland in St. john's. We were having an early spring here as well but we always get Sheilah's Brush. My daffs were even up about 6". Oh well...that's the weather here.

well, spring here involved quite a heavy dump of snow, I'm not sure the official amount, but it was deep... (20-30cm?) started Saturday night, and was all done by Sunday mid-day, since then it has been melting quickly, but it still has a ways to go.

You know, the other day I went to this Persian shop that I like to go to called Yaas (means "Lily"), and they were getting ready for Norouz, which has become a big part of North Van culture. It was snowing outside, big flakes although they never really landed, but the woman behind the counter saw me and said that it looked as though we were going to have a "white Norouz". We laughed at the irony of this as it would never happen in Iran. I figure it should be a hot Summer, no?
