And now for something completely different....

Post by bigbird »

This is a shot in the dark and just for fun!....

I am on the search for Guyanese rum (ron/rhum). Has anyone ever purchased Guyana rhum in Canada? You are probably wondering why I am looking specifically for Guyanese ron...Well good question you! Here is the story...

I am attempting to honour a friend at work who was lamenting about a beverage he used to enjoy. It is called a Dark and Stormy. It's made with homemade ginger beer and Guyanese rum. The friend is simply known as "Coach". Coach is both a friend and a mentor to myself at both work and life in general. Not to mention the leader of the pack on the five hundred and third (my shift). He once drove from Fort McMurray to Guyana in a Jeep YJ...How freaking sweet is that?!?! Coach is going to be leaving soon so we are going to have a year long send off. Hopefully ending with a guided tour of Guyana with the Coach himself. I'm trying to talk him into taking the Falcon down!

Also a line on soursop and/or carambola would be awesome!!! Bonus points for those who know what these are? Lol...

Thanks for letting me share. Any and all replies/ideas are welcome.

Much appreciated Loki! Although I'm a little ahead of you. Been there....Was more looking to get actual hands on at a good old fashion store in Van or Cowtown. $3400 for 12 bottles of rum!....I love the guy, but not that much.
Thank again though

Dark and Stormy's are universal...universally awesome that is! I had waaaaaay too many in Bermuda (where they insist you must use Bermudian Black Rum of course).

Now I'm thirsty...

There is a place on East 15th Ave., between Kingsway and Fraser (in Vancouver), called "The Lion's Den". The guy's name is Ken, he is from the Caribbean, I believe Saint Kitts. He might be able to help you, maybe not ~ worth a try. He has excellent ginger beer at least.

Falco.

Thanks Falco and all! Coach is totally worth the effort! One of the raddest guys I have ever met!!! According to him all dark and stormy's are imposters unless made with Guyanese rhum.....Which I'm guessing would be the story you would get from a different person from each of their respective Caribbean areas...

I have also procured a ginger beer recipe directly from Coach's 94 year old Guyanese Mom!!! Sweet!..I love it when a plan comes together!

Yes
It has hints of vanilla and I think clove
It was introduced to it by a good fellow and
it has been the Rhum of choice for me since.
Sraight up its quite nice or with a rock.
With a little cola it tastes like sipping sunshine.
I will have to try it with ginger beer.

I am thirsty now..

Rhum on! 8-)

Very cool of you to do this fo your buddy.

Soursop & carambola are both fruits - must be what you mix the rum with
