Chillkoot Trail
Has anyone here hiked this trail? We are planning to go in mid June, and it looks like a pretty amazing trek. I'm just looking for some first hand feedback, tips, stories...etc. I love hiking season!

Re: Chillkoot Trail
Just picked up a book and map of the trail last week from a friend who hiked it last summer. It took her 5 days at what she said was a fast pace. We might be doin it september. You have to be prepared for snow at the peak even in august apparently. So don't forget warm clothes.

Re: Chillkoot Trail
I hiked the Chilkoot trail in 1997, we did it in 5 days, but you can certainly do less, took the ferry from Prince Rupert up to Skagway (3 day ferry trip) then hiked for 5 days, took the train back to Skagway, and then the ferry back. was a good trip.

Re: Chillkoot Trail
I never did the chillkoot but i lived in whitehorse for a couple of years and some good friends of mine hiked it. They did it in one day !!! But they are crazy !!
The less time you take the less gear you have to bring with you is what they said........
It is a matter of balance. The longer you take to do it the more weight of crap you are hiking with......
good luck !!!
cheers

Re: Chillkoot Trail
After we had been hiking an entire day, we set up camp and slept, the next morning we awoke to the sound of the day hikers going through... I don't want to know what time they got up in the morning!I never did the chillkoot but i lived in whitehorse for a couple of years and some good friends of mine hiked it. They did it in one day !!! The other one we noticed was at the top of the pass at lunch time we met a day hiker, he was wearing jeans and rubber boots, we couldn't believe that someone would dare hike that trail in rubber boots!
