Hello All! New Delica Owner on Vancouver Island

Post by lightrider »

Hello,

My wife and I just acquired a '91 Diesel Delica Exceed!
This will be or only vehicle and we are so excited about the versatility of the Delica.

We hope to get a WVO conversion done soon and take care of these few "problems" that is has:

-It as an (apparently common) leak that has water dripping down on the driver-side floorboards when it rains.

-There is a clunk in the front end that happens sometimes when turning at low speed. It probably needs shocks, but I'm not sure that is related to this problem.

-The front 'bumper bar' is pretty rusted. I'll be taking off all the white bars and painting them black. Anyone have any tips for slowing down the rust?

-The stereo doesn't work. It still has an original stereo in it that doesn't tune to the FM bands we use in Canada, plus it has a short that makes it buzz really loud most of the time. Is it very difficult to replace the stereo in these? Anyone done a speaker upgrade? I love my tunes!

-The driver's side front window sticks a bit on it's way up and sometimes gets a little sideways and I have to give it a pull to get one side to unstick and continue going up. Anyone have any suggested places/ways to lube this?

We hope to take care of this van and have it for a long time, so I'm into making it as nice as possible.
Hope to see you on the road!

Welcome! Sounds like your bus is new from Japan? If so it will need a lot of overhaul work if you want it to last a long time. Since you're here on the Island I would strongly recommend you take to ccautos in Coombs for a check-over. Well worth every penny you spend there. Good luck :-D :M

Thanks,

I did a search and found a lot of info indeed. This seems to petty active forum :-D

I actually got the van from someone locally and it has already had quite a bit of work done at CCA.
I took it by for an oil change the other day and they assured me that it is in good shape.
It has a cracked windshield and a rusty bumper bar, but I think it'll fix up nicely.

I'm sure you will hear a lot more from me as work progresses.

take care

Highly recommend picking up a couple window clips-allows you to wind up the windows without them getting stuck -you can find the part number listed on this site..
Also, replacing shocks and sway bar bushing definitely improve the ride if they haven't been done already - best part is you can replace these parts yourself for just a couple hundred bucks.
Congrats on the van, gonna be a fun summer! :)

Lightrider,

If you decide to go the WVO route you should PM me. I have an almost complete plantdrive WVO kit that I will give you a deal on. It works great, I am just putting a gas engine in my newer delca, so I have no use for it. Congrats on the new Delica.
