Looking for a hitch

Post by Firesong »

Hey, Delicat is coming through Sask and I was hoping a hitch/towbar
might come this way with him. Does anyone have one they want
to sell? Possibly putting a new bumper together and won't need
the hitch? Please help out a fellow Delica owner :)
A maximum overdrive or.... PM me or Delicat

Thanks!

Much as it would be nice to get a used one, most of them are welded on, so pretty hard to remove. Although not cheap, you are best off to find a decent hitch shop in your location and have a custom one done.

Mine is actually unusual in that it is a custom bolt on unit, that doesn't require removing the rear sway bar, and the spare tire can still live in its home. So it CAN be done

DO NOT weld a hitch to the uni body. BAD BAD BAD idea. Severely weakens it.

We are also looking for a trailer hitch for light pulling.

What has other's experience been with fixing a custom hitch or other??

Thanks

E&H Hitches in the Vancouver area has done many hitches for Delicas. But that doesn't really help firesong. I can recommend a place in Calgary if anyone wants.

For light trailers, a 1.25 inch receiver hitch is enough.

But, most bike racks use 2" receivers, so I would suggest just going for the full meal deal. A bike rack puts lots of torque on the tube, not to mention the weight being a ways out. Much more so than an trailer on a hitch.

And if you want to use a cargo basket, they are all 2"; or should be. I wouldn't even think of using a 1.25" one.

Some things to think about.

This link was more to see if anyone had a hitch they wanted
to part with so it could be brought out to the prairies.

I had put up some hitch information in the delica mods forum
talking about my adventures in getting a hitch built.

I ended up getting one custom made in Saskatoon. Would
recommend the guy to anyone in the area. Excellent job done.
Have a peek at the mods forum for a picture.

I needed a beefy one to haul an aluminum boat around, PAuto Basket,
bike racks etc. Only tack welded in 2 spots so it was easier to
line up. Bolts are what's holding in there. Quite nicely.
