L300 Exceed - How to determine if it has limited slip diff?

Post by maw »

Hi all,

What are some ways to determine if my Delica has Limited Slip Differential(LSD)? Can I tell by the VIN or any other version markings? I got under the rear axle and inspected the diff but did not see any markings or serials to hint at an open or LS diff. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

FYI, I have 1992 L300 Exceed, short roof with winter package. AFAIK, not jasper or chamonix model. I think I saw "P25W" beside the VIN tag.

I guess the tell tale way would be to jack it up in 2WD and see how the wheels spin in drive?

Usually there is a sticker on the diff saying to use LSD diff fluid only.

this one has been brought up many times. open the drivers door and look for the orange sticker with black japanese words at the bottom corner of the door. i believe its at the low corner of the door where your right hip would be when the door is closed. orange sticker means lsd. i even had it translated by a japanese student. thats what it says.

hope this helps sid.

jack up rear end

rotate one wheel

if both move in the same direction = limited slip

if one moves counter to the other = open diff

Find a patch of level wet grass, stomp on the accelerator, and if you get two track marks instead of just one - limited slip.
