Don't be. These are old-school old-tech mechanically injected diesels. They all smoke a bit under acceleration. Diesels do this. AirCare know this.

I was worried too! My insurance expired and I drove around for a day without realizing (so I'm the reason we all have to buy uninsured motorist protection). I still can't believe how idiotic this was - the autoplan broker says it happens all the time

The only hitch I had at aircare was that I didn't know the engine size. I found the marking inside the engine cover (2456 cc) but everything was in Japanese so they didn't want to use it. They had me leave the bay while the looked it up somewhere. They found it, it's 2.5L officially.

Tests always make me nervous - but it passed no problems.

One thing that bothered me about the whole experience was the "is it a right hand drive" question from ICBC. Is this their idea of a study - and why don't they already have this info?

When i renewed my insurance the broker noticed that when i first insured it last year that the previous broker had not stamped it! It even says something about the insurance not being valid if it is not stamped. I guess i was driving around without valid insurance for the last year. Definitely will be looking for the stamp in the future.
