New Delica owner from New Zealand

Post by fuel »

hey guys and gals!

there isn't really a dedicated forum for Delicas on our side of the world so thought I'ld come invade yours!

My name's Phil and I'm from Hamilton in New Zealand. I'm a bit Mitsubishi fan and also own a multitude of other Mitsubishis including an original stock standard 1991 Galant VR-4 Evolution, a '93 Galant with V6 MIVEC power, and a 1980 Galant-Eterna coupe currently undergoing a 3L V6 MIVEC Twin turbo conversion.

I've picked up a 1991 Mitsubishi Delica 4WD van, pretty rough around the edges but it will do. Powered by a 2.5 diesel turbo 4D56, thankfully it looks to have been cared for enough by previous owner. Was used as a tradesman's van so is missing most the rear seats, many broken plastic trim bits inside etc. Exhaust is broken, has a bit of a scrape/dent on one side but for $750 it was a bargain.

unsure what my plans are for it yet, pretty much just need to get it a WOF and roll it as is for a while, then perhaps a lift kit, some wider alloys with mud grip tyres, a ladder on the tail gate, epic roof rack and roof box with floodlights, big spotties on the front etc

Let me know what you guys think.

Wicked deal, Fuel!

I added a leaf in the rear suspension, torqued the torsion bars, so I have about an inch or two lift. I figure that is all I really need. On the other hand you could check out Delicat's mods, or look up "Mud Monkey" in the search feature in the top left of this screen, very useful. Delicat put great big mudders on the Mitsushi, where the Miss Lil' Bitchi (my van) has Yokohama Geolandars (235/75R15's). If you look in the "Events" forums, you will find pictures that might give you some ideas. Welcome to Delica Canada :M .

Cool another Deli enthusiast in NZ! Welcome fuel. I too crashed this board due to a lack of a NZ one :-) They're a helpful and knowledgable bunch.

Nice van and an absolute bargain!

Look forward to seeing some pics as you modify it.

Welcome to an other down-underer. You comment that there isn't a Delica forum down under, but there is an Aussie one. That not close enough for you <grin>?

Your van looks really nice. Enjoy!
