Replacing the head light bulb - my version.

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Replacing the head light bulb - my version.

Post by Profister »

Leaving the CVI customer appreciation day event I was stopped by one of our dear members and told that the right low beam light (read DRL) was dead. 'Not a big deal' I said, 'I can handle replacing the bulb'. Today I found that it would be too simple for my luck with this Delica. After reading all related info on the forum, armed with the tools I took the right side lights off and found why that piece was moving freely back and forth about 1/2" - the plastic mount clip was missing (see picture 1). More surprises were waiting for me on the other side of the assembly. Picture 2 represents the wires that were either cut or taped or left bare as well as the harness that was not connected to anything. Finally, pictures 3 and 4 show the actual cause for the light being off. The light assembly is DEPO 214-1124R, E4. now the question to someone who can give me a straight answer: is what you see normal? Is this wiring (cut, taped, left hanging freely) a common practice when replacing headlight? The last shot shows the brown wire being taped to black which is toast at the connector now. Is this this wiring correct? Finally, am I over reacting and this is nothing but a random issue with reputable DEPO lights?
Thank you in advance.
Sergiy.

I have never really felt that the head lights on these vans are very good or well thought out. That said that is one of the worst stories of the many tales of bad light I have heard in a while. Better luck next time!

Have a very good day!

I did not have time to think too much about my options and spare parts to play with so I ended with using my soldering skills. My only concern is all these cut and loose wires.

looks like a shoddy job.. who installed your DRLs? i think butt connectors rather than tape should have been used. the bare green wire, and its harness is for DRL using a third bulb. some E code headlights, like yours, have a socket for the third bulb. in other discussion it has been referred to as "city lights"
i put a 10w bulb in there, wired it to a relay and it works great
http://www.delica.ca/forum/drl-the-hard ... ights+easy i used the schematic produced by loki

btw you can slide the harness on the bent metal clip screwed to the assembly. i screwed my relay to the post with the hole in the center of the assembly
8-)

ps i can send you that screw on cover if you want...i got a few here

Well, the DRL was installed in CVI in 15 minutes and the installation did not involve removing the head lights; I bought it in CT and Edwin did the job. I have no problems with DRL but this wiring has something to do with whoever installed the compliant head lights I guess. I do not want to point the finger again to be blamed for posting 'bogus problems' and being advised to shut up.
Thanks after oil for the link, I consider redoing the whole thing to clean up the mess. Do not worry about a screw, I can figure it out but thanks anyway for the offer.
