wvo trip across Canada

Post by delicat »

Hi all!

Last April I left Vancouver with my oldest son and our dog to drive all the way to Quebec using mostly wvo. We drove through Canada and ended up meeting with a few Delica folks through out the provinces. It took me long enough but I finally found time to download some of my pictures. More of the pictures are already posted in the "Larger than life" post...

It'd be nice to narrate the trip but it's already been a few months and my brain got seriously dammaged while celebrating the "St-Jean Baptiste" under the midnight sun of Norway last week so my memory is still recovering... 8-)

There's not many people that have oil available in Canada so I ended up bringing all the oil I could fit in my van while still leaving room for my boy, my dog and our gears. Ended up with about 22 cubies hidden everywhere!

I should have remembered that floods are pretty bad in the spring in Manitoba. It simply looked like grass, the water had left leaving it me to believe all was good... Not so, never saw mud so sticky! In no time I was royally stucked! A good shovel, a good samaritan and I was back on track in no time.

I know all these province welcoming signs aren't very artistic pictures but it's an old habit of mine...
The road trip went very well, didn't even used a full tank of diesel to make it all the way to Quebec, a total of just over 5000km. Once in Montreal I managed to get nice and cheap oil so that I didn't have to pay for diesel while in Quebec. Now the van is parked for the summer, patiently waiting for my return to bring me back home in the fall.

Thanks again Erebus for welcoming us to your house! We had even more invitations to stop by other Delica owner's houses but timing wasn't always goog, thanks again!

Cheers!

Haha! He was hanging fine but just kept on complaining about all the bugs he was catching so I had to bring him back inside!

Hey Golf Cart! Thanks again for your gears, they were peace of mind on the trip! Let me check my pics to see if I got anything for Falco. It's not the blondes that are missing around here that's for sure!

I'm in Tromso, Norway (Northern tip) right now and there's just no nights happening. Kinda weird and hard to get used to sunlight 24\7 but better now than comes winter time...

St.Jean Baptiste in Norway? Cool!
It's hard to award any one particular
ethno-cultural group with the title
"world wildest holiday partier",
but in my experience the French-Canadian contingent
has always performed well and are not to be taken lightly! :-D

X2 (Golf Cart's empathic sensitivity sets an example for all of us!) :-P

The pics are are really great thanks for posting and the
"bush bar brat "comments made me spit my morning coffee
all over the keyboard.Funny Stuff my GF is laughing her head off too.

Hey Kev and all,

After Sweden, Norway turns out to be a pretty cool place! So much wilderness and cool tiny little States as there's a better distribution network...

More pics coming but they'd be non-Delica related... Only yesterday did I see my first Delica, an old one...

Cheers!

Hi David great pics! You're in Norway - I am so envious - went as far as Boda and the Lofoten Islands when I was
there a few years ago.
I actually sold a kit, tank and all, to a customer in northern Norway last year.....for a GM Van!

Lofoten is a bit south from here but it's on our list to do. As for the hamack it's an old trunk separator found on some cars, can't remember which ones but larger american type. Got them used...

Off to visit a tiny fishing village where my friend's dad grew up... Tromvic
