Hello again,
Seems like I need the collective knowledge again, as the delica (I no longer call her by nickname)and I can't seem to make it six months without an issue! This time it's the alternator me thinks. The batteries have been replaced, and I checked the voltage across the terminals (12.35ish) and there was no change with engine revving, however there is no dash light coming on (does this only indicate battery charge?) The alternator fuse at the battery terminal is good, and the wiring at both ends visually seems good, if not a bit oily at the alternator due to a leak. How do I check wiring with voltmeter? I'm going to try and fix this one myself, as it seems fairly straight forward. Does anyone have a napa (only place in Pemberton) part number for a replacement alternator, is a 92 Montero the same? Due to timing issues and needing the van daily for work, I'll just do a straight swap, rather than rewired. In the meantime, till parts arrive, I'll keep the batteries unhooked and charge them overnight.
Thanks for all your assistance, now and to come, hope everyone is having a great summer.
Nick

Thanks 'After Oil', called Graham at Coombs, and will be picking one up from the greyhound at Pemby sometime tomorrow. Installation to be done after work, and possibly some valium and beer, after the cussing and foot stomping of getting old one out! Take it easy, and have a great weekend all.

Re: Alternator issues?
12.35 volts = no charging. It should be more like 13.5 when the engine is running.
The idiot light is optimistic. It goes out if there is anything at all coming from the alternator, even if it's not enough to actually do anything.
