So after reading posts about how diesel engines like to burn used motor oil,I decided to throw 16 liters of it in with a batch of oil to be processed in my centrifuge.
DON'T DO THIS !!
not for environmental reasons (although you could make an argument ) but it was the worst thing i have ever had to deal with. The oil burns just fine. I only put in the 16 liters in my drum with 100 plus liters of wvo but it was not good........
I heated the oil mixture like i always do, up to 180 degrees or so And it smelled ssooooooooo bad.
It was foaming a bit in the tank. Then the oil i was pouring into the cubbies afterward was black as could be. No particulate in it......just black. I have a huge piece of metal that i use to stir my tank a few times during the heating and centrifuging process. I do this every time. I figure nothing can settle out over time this way.
Today i was emptying the last of the filtered oil from the tank............I look down in the bottom of the barrel and what do i see ??? !!! The bloody Exxon Valdez my friends !!! It was black thick crude oil sludge !!! nasty nasty !! So i spent the better part of 2 hours in a 40 degree garage in a pair of coveralls cleaning out my tank !! The good news. Not one speck of tempura crud in the bottom. Just the crude oil..
For some reason it did not mix despite stirring it manually during the process.... And oh my goodness was my centrifuge hard to clean !! I had to use engine cleaner . So it is not worth the headache trust me.This has been embarrassing to tell but if it can save someone trouble then i am glad to take one for the team .
cheers isaac
